Benzino surrendered on May 23 after being declared a fugitive following a warrant for his arrest. The order stemmed from a controversy in July 2020 involving Althea Heart, the mother of his child, and her boyfriend. During a heated argument, the rapper allegedly smashed Heart’s boyfriend’s car. He described his side of the court battle and its rationale to the news source. He say,
“At this point, I was arguing with who she was with.” In short, the case happened about two years ago and someone posted that old video, that’s why I argued with him.”

He claimed that he was ordered to appear in court via Zoom but failed to do so after testing positive for Covid. An order was later issued to him. Last month, he was accused of being involved in another family dispute with Heart and her partner. He was detained and charged with a second degree felony as well as disturbing public peace and order. During the argument, he allegedly hit the man’s car with his fist.

Singer Althea Heart was born on April 17, 1982. In 2004, the 39-year-old signed a million-dollar contract with Def Jam. However, her first album was canceled and the company removed her in 2006. In 2017, Georgia officials raided his residence and discovered 22 grams of THC gum, six tablets of MDMA and some marijuana. He was detained and charged with criminal drug possession. The 56-year-old was detained in 2019 for not appearing in court for traffic violations. Initial video footage of the arrest shows him shouting at officers and asking why he was being fined.
