According to the Daily Herald, Brian Peck, 60, was severely reprimanded by a judge Monday for the 2017 murder and dismemberment of Gail Peck, 76, at her suburban Chicago home. The judge cited Brian Peck’s “irredeemable depravity” in his comments.

62 years for the man who mutilated his mother: “It can’t be much worse”

Cook County Circuit Judge Joseph Cataldo told the court: “It can’t get any worse than that.” Peck, of Elgin, received 50 years in prison for killing her mother, 20 years in prison for mutilating her body and five years in prison for covering up the crime. But because subsequent sentences will be served at 50/50, he will actually serve 62 12 years in prison, less than the roughly four years he served while awaiting trial.

According to acquaintances, Peck’s mother was a dog lover and breast cancer survivor who celebrated life “even when there was no chance,” according to a Daily Herald report. Peck was found guilty of murdering his mother in February.

“How can you look at your mother with such contempt?” Sherry Orrico, a close friend of Gail Peck, popped the question Monday in court. “She was buried in pieces of her with parts of her still missing, so she didn’t get the honor from her that she deserved…”

Then, according to Peck, he “swept” the mother’s leg, knocking her to the ground, stomping on her, and putting his foot on her neck. According to the newspaper, he then dismembered her body and placed some of her remains in garbage bags before dumping them in Lake Michigan.

The report states that Peck then dumped some of his mother’s remains in a coffin and a duffel bag filled with bricks in Chicago’s Lincoln Park lagoon.

The next day, Gail Peck’s son called the police and said that she had gone for a walk with her dog but had not returned. A day later, a fisherman found a canvas bag containing parts of her body in the lagoon.

Peck testified in court on Monday: “I loved my mother with all my heart and soul,” prompting detectives to turn their backs.

Gail’s only son, Peck, admits he dismembered his mother because he didn’t think police would accept his self-defense plea, the Naperville Sun reports.

Cataldo, on the other hand, was sincere in his reproach to the murderer in the first degree. The court asked: “What kind of human being could look at his mother… and dismember her body like that.”
