The daughter of a British businessman was kidnapped with her husband and child in front of a restaurant in Brazil.

Armed robbers ambushed the family and held them for about 12 hours, allegedly stealing their car and money from their bank accounts before releasing them.

The trio were leaving a restaurant in Alto do Lapa, Sao Paulo, on Wednesday night when they were abducted by a gang.

It wasn’t until the next morning that the couple’s eldest child raised the alarm to discover that her family had not returned home, according to local reports.

The terrified daughter contacted a relative who called the police.

The model – who has worked with the likes of Beyonce and appeared on the covers of magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire – was kept in a cabin with her family overnight, reports said.

The wooden hut in Brasilandia, one of the 96 neighborhoods of São Paulo, had only a mattress, a toilet and a sink.

Luciana, her husband and their youngest child were released by the kidnappers while the police went in search of the families.

The terrified family sought help from locals after their kidnappers left their hideout, stealing a model car.

They were quickly taken to safety, and a spokesperson for the 47-year-old model confirmed the incident to local media, saying, “The family has been released and is safe and well.”

While they were in hiding, their captors are believed to have transferred money from the couple’s bank accounts to their own.

The police’s specialist anti-kidnapping unit is investigating and officers are analyzing CCTV footage around the unnamed restaurant where the gang carried out the attack.

The police confirmed in a statement: “Armed criminals approached the victims in front of the restaurant and captured them.

“During the search by specialized police teams, the gang abandoned the family and fled.”

Neither Luciana nor her husband made any comment about the ordeal.

Born in Brazil, Luciana is the daughter of British businessman Malcolm Leo Curtis and teacher Katie Maria Furtado de Mendonca Curtis.

She was born in Sao Paulo, but mostly lives in New York.

The stunning brunette reached the final of Brazilian Supermodel of the World in 1993 after starting modeling at just 14 years old.

The invitation to the competition was handed to her by a scout while she was walking around the mall.

Luciana made it to the top four and went on to appear on the cover of a number of magazines.

She was also part of the global campaign for L’Oreal’s “True Match” powder and foundation with Beyonce.

Earlier this year, she appeared alongside other models on the cover of ELLE Brazil.

The issue was “an ode to Brazilian supermodels who, from the late 1990s to the present, have taken their profession abroad, appearing on catwalks for major brands and becoming muses for legendary stylists and established photographers.”
