As a young man, Charles began practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu under the guidance of Roger Coelho. In 2003, at the age of 12, he won his first major title as a white belt. In 2010, Ericson Cardoso and Jorge “Macaco” Patino awarded him a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.
