As a four -member mom, Chrissy Teigen manages to be a planner.
“If the football season comes up, I have to get that equipment. If Luna has a recital, I have to start that costume,” the entrepreneur says to raise her eldest daughter, 9 and sisters Miles, 6, Esti, 2, and Wren, 22 months. “There is no other way to get rid of this life.”
Still, Teigen, 39, learned in the most difficult ways of last summer that there are some things she and her husband John Legend, 46, just can’t plan.
In July 2024, a couple of superstar revealed that miles were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes – a chronic condition where the pancreas had a little insulin – after the “terrible” Shigella case landed in the hospital during the football camp.
“It really took miles stronger than a lot of other children,” recalls the usual bacterial infection that affects the digestive system. “His pain was amazing, and he is a pretty tough little boy.”

Chrissy Teigen says her family ‘still learns’ about type 1 diabetes in the middle of the diagnosis of son Miles’
After three full days of “blood after blood test” at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital, doctors confirmed that Miles-which had not previously proved symptoms with type 1.
“We are thrown into this world of chaos and we have to learn so much at once,” says Teigen of Grapplin’s disorder of his autoimmune disorder, which can lead to life complications that affect the heart, blood vessels, nerves and kidneys if they are left without treatment.
Almost a year later, Teigen and Legend settled in a new normal, priority for Miles’s physical and emotional health while balanced by the needs of their entire children.
“Everything was put on a break. We were entering and getting out of the hospitals, sitting with our notebooks by taking rich notes and recording videos about everything that someone did with an insulin jar,” Teigen says.
When they first returned home, Miles asked, “Why do I? How not Luna?” He remembers. “He really worried that it would affect this if he could play sports. Can I still have sweets? Can I get ice cream? All those things that would make only a child worry.”

Teigen and Legend bought crowds of diabetes miles, but “I found myself reading more children’s books than it might be,” she says. “It puts it in terms that are so easy to understand.”
One of the most difficult parts of Miles’s treatment is teigen is to give its daily insulin injections.
“You try everything: tokens, bribe, iPad time. Do everything you can to see what makes him comfortable,” she says, becoming emotional. “The first three months were really, very difficult for us as a family because your child is experiencing pain.”
Teigen admits he still has ups and downs. “One day you are,” he did it! “And you are so excited to watch everything. Then suddenly it’s so hard again,” she says. “I always talked about children in general, and that fits this in and this: when things go so great, you can always count on the fact that it will turn. And when things are really rough, things will improve. Our family is really good in the movement of those balls for the curve now.”

Although the founder of Cravings and her husband are a priority for Miles’s health, they also worked hard to balance their other children during the temptation.
“It has a different effect on everything in the family. Luna is a tough cookie and she is a kind of boss of all. She is like a baby queen,” Teigen says. “He doesn’t want to say that, but those moments before bed where are you like,” Do you have big feelings today? “Or ‘I noticed that you are a little shy or a little quiet today. Then tears come out and they are like:’ I simply feel like [Miles is] Getting a lot of attention “or” gets candy when I don’t get candy. ”
“You realize that everyone is involved in it and somehow come up with a way to move to everyone’s different feelings and moods around him,” she explains. “It’s our parents’ job. We are happy that we are a safe place for them to come and talk if they are sad or not.”
Teigen and her family leaned against their village – including foreigners who flooded her Instagram support – after Miles’s diagnosis. He now hopes to advocate for others who are at high risk of developing the disease (genetics is a factor) to obtain early examinations, which are often low or even no costs, depending on insurance.
Like many other “T1 moms”, Teigen had no “concept”, there was an early examination for type 1 diabetes, which is estimated to affect 2 million Americans. Blood examination of autoantibodies requires autoantiquity associated with diabetes and before the surface of the symptoms.
“Does not prevent type 1 but is is I’m going to prepare you for that. I can’t tell you how much that has changed our lives so quickly, “says Teigen, which partnership with Sanofi’s type 1 movement screen” ” We went straight from the hospital to the home, and I would love to make more mistakes orange orange than I did for miles. Go to your doctor, advocate yourself and your family for early examination. ”

While her son is only 6 years old, she can already see the impact sharing his story.
“One of the things with shot with Sanofi … In the video is the time in which he finally really talks about it for the first time and says something so simple and nice to look at him, and I am, my God, this is such an emotional process,” she says. “He now knows that he and I become spokespersons and we have to help others. He has found such power in that, and that is truly amazing.”
While attending the Olympic Games last year, Teigen and her family Serendipitity sat next to Nick Jonas, who was also careful about their own trip with type 1.
“What a better person to come across from Nick Jonas who showed us the equipment [and] all? He was so cute to a mile. It was amazing, “she says.
“I know how much it means to miles to see in anyone. Some sent us [videos of] Their friends who are football players who live with type 1 and see his eyes bright, “Teigen continues.” I told him, “Miles, you have to be it for other people now! How cool is that? ‘He’s a little warrior.”
