Officers entered the room he shared with a friend in a three-star apartment complex in Los Cristianos in the south of the island as the teenager’s worried mother said she feared “something bad” had happened to him and he was being held against his will.

Apprentice bricklayer Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, is booked to return to the UK tomorrow morning.

But his worried mum Debbie Duncan, now joined in Tenerife by Jay’s dad Warren, said she had his passport and didn’t expect him to reappear and get on his plane home.

She was staying in another apartment in the same complex that Jay had booked, although she is due to move into new accommodation tomorrow.

Speaking tonight as a third day of police searches turned up no trace of the 19-year-old, whose last phone contact with friend Lucy Mae was from the mountains near the small village of Masca in north-west Tenerife, Debbie said: “I haven’t slept since this all started and I don’t plan to now go up to the search site.

“They warned me that I would be out of my mind when I saw how rocky it was and I probably don’t have the strength right now.

“I just want to be here if he shows up, but I have a bad feeling. They warn me that there are many bad people in Tenerife.

The police were in Jay’s room today. I was in his room too. But everything at Jay’s place was neatly hung, it’s just a normal room and there’s nothing wrong with it

“I just think they’re holding him against his will. He’s not a stupid guy. He wouldn’t walk down the damn mountains.

“There is a road with tourists, buses and properties, he is not that silly.

“Still no ransom demand, but I got a Snapchat about 10 minutes after I got off the plane saying ‘Kiss your boy, you’ll never see him again, he owes me a lot of money.’ which I passed on to the police with the number it came from because I was smart at the time and got my oldest son Zac to take a screen shot before it disappeared.

“There were so many jokes that I don’t know if that was the case, but I’m passing on information to the police that I think might be relevant and I thought it might be.”

She added: “The police were in Jay’s room today. I was in his room too. But everything at Jay’s place was neatly hung, it’s just a normal room and there’s nothing wrong there.

“His passport was there along with all his euros which I now have.” I’m not sure he had any money on him when he made his last call to his friend Lucy on the Monday morning before he disappeared.

It comes as…

“But he had his bank card and I checked his bank because I can access his account online and nothing has gone missing since he was at Veronica’s Strip in Playa de Las Americas earlier.

“He and his friend Brad, who he flew here with, would get up and fly home tomorrow.

“They had a flight tomorrow morning. I have the tickets as well as Jay’s passport which was banned by the British authorities before they found out he was in my possession.

“Brad will stay now. No one will go to the airport just in case Jay shows up there because I know for a fact that he would be in contact with someone and he won’t suddenly show up there again without warning.

“As far as I understand, the police entered the house he went to after leaving the festival, which is located in the rural park of Teno near Masca.

“I believe the people he went with are British and have a cockney accent, but I am not aware that they are being treated as suspects at this time.

“For me it’s just a matter of sitting and waiting and hoping for good news tomorrow.”

‘SUSPICIOUSLY’

Lucy Mae, the last person to speak to Jay before he disappeared, fought back tears today, saying: “Something strange is going on. It’s suspicious. In two days you will tell me that someone did not see him.

Lucy told The Sun that her friend was “not stupid” and he called her from a “full mountaineer” area in “broad daylight”.

She added: “To be fair, it only opened in two hours, but if it were me, I would sit and wait in the restaurant until it opened.

“As soon as it opened, I’d say ‘Please can you put my phone on charge’ and then I’d call somebody, I’d call a taxi.”

Jay flew to Tenerife with pals Lucy Mae and Brad for the New Rave Generation (NRG) 2024 festival, which ended on Sunday.

He left that night with two other men he had just met to go to their flat, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Jay’s last known location was Teno Rural Park in the north-west of the island – a popular hiking spot for tourists – around 8am on Monday.

The place is a 10-hour walk from where he was staying.

Jay’s friend Lucy said today that Jay’s disappearance was “suspicious” and insisted there was “something strange going on”.

The spokesman of the Civil Guard said today around 12:30 local time: “The search operation has been moved to the south of the island.”

“Search areas are Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas.”

A spokesman did not give further details about the reasons for the change, but said: “It obviously came down to information that was received as the investigation progressed.

“As things currently stand, the search in the mountainous area near Masca in the north has been halted.”

Police this morning said they were not considering Jay’s disappearance as the third day of the massive manhunt got underway.

Another Snapchat post, sent by Jay on Sunday night before he disappeared, shows the teenager smiling with friends.

It was filmed around 8:30 PM in the Arona area of Santa de Cruz in the south of the island, where the festival was held.

After calling Lucy at 8am on Monday, a missing person report was filed around 9am and the search began.

Jay’s mum Debbie Duncan and older brother Zak flew out on Tuesday to join the effort.
