Mom Wonders Why Her Daughter Wants to Sleep with Mattress on the Floor: ‘Are We Canceling Bed Frames?’

A mom is taken aback by her daughter’s sudden obsession with putting the mattress on the floor to sleep.

Posting on TikTok using the hashtag @missaliceroy, the mum asked other parents if they could understand why her daughter no longer wanted to sleep in a regular bed.

“So, my daughter is in the fifth grade and right now it’s important to her that she doesn’t want a bed anymore, I mean like a bed frame, she wants her mattress on the floor,” said mom.

“Okay, great. I’m not going to fight her about it, but I’m a little confused,” she continued. “I can’t get the vision or I don’t like the concept behind it so I need help. Is this something we do or is it just my daughter’s creative brain?”

Many have advised moms to look into Montessori beds, which are designed without restricting rails and low enough to the floor for little ones to get in and out of independently.

“She has a friend with a Montessori bed,” one person commented.

“I was always changing things in my room around that age. I remember switching from a high loft bed to a mattress on the floor because I wanted something different and comfortable,” wrote another.

“As a teenager, it’s probably because it looks super comfortable. But after reading the comments, definitely get her a Montessori bed!” said the third.

“No more monsters under the bed,” another person joked.

However, other commenters argued that a bed close to the floor can cause mold growth and increase the risk of bed bug infestations.

A few people even tried to convince the mom to strictly force her daughter to sleep in the bed she already has.

Among them was one person who admitted they had “no idea” why they went through a “phase” when they wanted no bed as a child, but were glad their parents said no.
