First, we will tell you an interesting story.
Auguste Dupin, the detective who was the inspiration behind Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional character Sherlock Holmes. Dupin used his logical reasoning to find a stolen letter that made it through two intense police searches.
Police believe the letter was hidden in a secret compartment or some other clever hiding place. They searched the suspect’s home from top to bottom, but could not find the letter. In the end, they concluded that the letter should not have been on the premises.
However, Dupin knew that the police had missed the letter because they were looking for it in the wrong place. The letter lay in a visible place, in a place where no one even thought to look for it.
What does this story tell us? Sometimes we try to find things based on our assumptions about their shape, size or position, thereby tricking our perception.
Like the story of the letter lurking in plain sight, today we present one such optical illusion created by artist Gianni A. Sarcone in which you have to spot another giraffe lurking in the background.
