Jo Frost has been bringing order to unruly households around the world for two decades.
Through her hit ABC reality show from the early 2000s Super nannylong-time parenting expert has helped families deal with issues such as lack of discipline, controlling behavior, sleeping apart, disrespect and communication. In each episode, she observed family dynamics for a day, then offered tools and “house rules” for parents to implement, ultimately fostering a more peaceful and respectful home environment.
In seven original seasons Super nanny which aired in the United States – she also starred in the UK version for many years – Frost gained a reputation for her no-nonsense approach and genuine compassion for families in need. According to the parents she coached, that dedication was there even when the cameras stopped rolling.
“There’s a lot you don’t see,” Cathy Webb, who appeared in Season 2 super nanny, told The New York Times 2005 “Jo and I talked a lot off camera. One time we were doing an interview and she got worried that the kids hadn’t had lunch yet. So at that point she turned off the cameras so we could make food.”
Frost said New York Post in 2010 that she was leaving Super nanny to “create more balance” in his life. Ten years later, she returned to the series for another season on Lifetime.

Jo Frost is a childcare expert and former star Super nanny. She was raised in London by Michael Frost, a builder and painter, and Joan Frost, an interior designer who died of breast cancer when Frost was 24.
In an interview with PEOPLE in 2020, the professional nanny explained why she chose her career.
“People told me I was good with kids,” Frost said. “It was always very natural for me to hold babies and be around children; it’s just part of my DNA.”
After working as a nanny for over 15 years, Frost signed on to star in the original British version Super nanny through a newspaper advertisement. It premiered in 2004 and was an instant success in the UK. A year later, she moved to California to star in an American spinoff on ABC.

The ABCs Super nanny aired in 2005 and ran for seven seasons before Frost left in 2011. She cited a need for more balance in her life as the reason for her departure — and the same year she married her longtime boyfriend, location coordinator Darrin Jackson.
“[He] he really understood my work and wanted to be a part of it,” the childcare expert told PEOPLE. “He’s a man who thrives on friendship in all of that and being able to help, so that made things very easy in that regard.”

In the 20 years since then Super nanny first aired, Frost continued her work supporting families on and off screen. Her TV series include Jo Frost: Extreme Parental Control, Family SOS, Jo Frost: Family Matters, Jo Frost: Nanny on tour and Frost on Killer Kidsaccording to her website. The reality TV star has also written four books on baby and toddler care.
Almost a decade after the last one Super nanny episode aired, Lifetime renewed it for an eighth season with Frost at the helm. The 20-episode series premiered in 2020 and focused on helping parents deal with modern-day issues like internet use, balancing complicated schedules, and video games.
The iconic nanny told PEOPLE in 2019 that she believes families today are “less confident than ever.”
“I look forward to families across America having access to my parenting education on their family challenges, as this country/government lacks the resources, staff and funding that families so desperately need in society,” said Frost. “Family issues are also broader in scope and cover many different global issues…. [the] The Internet has changed a lot.”

In addition to her television work, Frost helps families through private consultations and shares her parenting techniques and educational content on her Instagram. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with her grandson Eli from her husband’s side of the family.
When she’s not preaching the importance of potty training or warning about the dangers of too much screen time, Frost can be found running sound baths, taking her grandson to the zoo, and relaxing on the beach with Jackson.
