10 Best Cards In Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield — Champion’s Path, Ranked

Pokémon TCG trainers wanting to further their Charizard collection should keep their eyes out at their local stores for the new Ultra Premium Charizard Collection being released on October 28th. This set gives three amazing promo Charizard cards alongside several Charizard-focused items and of course Sword & Shield booster packs.

The Champion’s Path was a small expansion, but it received a great deal of attention due to it containing the incredibly rare Charizard V card that depicted a shiny Charizard as well as several other memorable cards that could expand any players battle repertoire.

10 Grapploct V (Full Art)

Grapploct is one of the few V Pokémon featured in the Champion’s Path, but it is also one of the best. This card is the perfect fit in any fighting-type centered deck due to its incredible power. Grapploct’s first attack, Tie Up, is a great way to propel forward in battle without receiving damage.

Tie Up deals 20 damage and keeps the opponent’s Pokémon from attacking their next turn. Grapploct’s second attack is where the real damage comes as it deals 120 damage. This attack also deals 100 more damage if the player flips a coin, and lands on heads.

9 Drednaw VMAX (Secret)

Drednaw VMAX’s secret rare is one of the rarer cards from Champion’s Path that collectors will want to get their hands on. This card is also quite an asset in battle. Its ability, Solid Shell, helps to reduce damage by taking 30 less damage from every attack.

Even though this card has such great defense because of its ability doesn’t mean that it’s lacking on the offense. Drednaw’s attack, G-Max Headbutt, deals 160 damage plus 80 more damage if they flip a coin, and it lands on heads.

8 Incineroar V

Incineroar, like a few of the other V Pokémon in Champion’s Path, doesn’t have a secret rare or a full art version of the card. But that doesn’t stop it from being a great card. Incineroar is the perfect Pokémon to use in battle, and it has two powerful attacks.

The first attack, Grand Flame, deals 90 damage and immediately allows the player to attach up to 2 fire-type energies to one of their benched Pokémon. Incineroar’s second attack, Flare Blitzer, is even more powerful and deals 220 damage. The only downside to Flare Blitzer is that it also deals 30 damage to Incineroar every time it’s used.

7 Wailord V

This is a fantastic card for players who need to add a Wailord to their water-type deck. This card is great to look at and has some great attacks. Its first attack is perfect for getting ready for the second attack, it requires one water-type energy and allows the player to attach up to 3 water-type energies to Wailord.

If this is achieved, Wailord will be ready to use its second attack, Ocean Waves, which requires four water-type energies. Ocean Waves deals 120 damage and lets the player flip 3 coins, for each heads the coin lands on Wailord deals an additional 120 damage. This means that Ocean Waves in total can deal 480 damage.

6 Venusaur V

While Charizard in many ways is seen as the star of the Champion’s Path expansion, this card of one of the best grass-type Pokémon, Venusaur is more than worth mentioning. This card possesses two different attacks that make a deadly combination.

The first attack, Pollen Bomb, deals 80 damage and also simultaneously poisons and puts the opponent’s Pokémon to sleep. Venusaur’s second attack, Solar Typhoon, deals 220, but it cannot be used on the player’s next turn.

5 Alcremie VMAX

This rising cake Pokémon is one of the strongest fully evolved fairy-type Pokémon and this card is sure to make any opponent the player goes up against sweat when played. Its first attack, Adornment, requires one colorless energy and allows the player to attach one psychic energy from their deck to each Pokémon they have on their bench.

Alcremie’s second attack, G-Max Whisk, deals 60 damage times the number of energy cards the player chooses to discard from Alcremie. This gives an incredible range as to how much damage the player wants Alcremie to inflict, and they can bide their time by continually stacking energy cards to the Pokémon until they’re ready to deal some serious damage.

4 Kabu (Secret)

Kabu’s secret rare card is definitely one that collectors will want to keep in their collections. However, players will also want Kabu to use in battles. This card has a great effect that allows the player to have a new chance at luck.

The player must shuffle their hand into their deck and draw 4 cards. However, if the player doesn’t have any benched Pokémon they get to actually draw 8 cards instead. This is a perfect card to play for players who need basic Pokémon to put on their bench and need to re-roll their luck.

3 Gardevoir VMAX (Secret)

Gardevoir is one of the best psychic-type Pokémon, and its VMAX’s secret rare card is beautiful and breathtaking to look at. Since Gardevoir only has one attack and no abilities most of the card is the artwork. However, its single attack is still quite impressive and requires two psychic-type energies and one colorless energy to use.

This attack, Max Cure, deals 180 damage but also heals 50 damage from Gardevoir. This is an incredible dual-purpose attack that helps Gardevoir stay active longer than most Pokémon would be able to. Add other healing cards to a player’s deck and Gardevoir can be even more unstoppable.

2 Charizard V (Secret)

Of course one of the best cards from Champion’s Path is one of the most popular Pokémon, Charizard, and as its shiny variant no less. This card is absolutely breathtaking and is one of the rarest cards from Champion’s Path.

Shiny Charizard is of course desired far more by collectors with even players of the game even hesitant to use it. Though its first attack requires three colorless energies and deals 80 damage. The second attack, Fire Spin, deals 220 damage though the player must discard 2 energy cards from the Pokémon to use the attack.

1 Charizard VMAX (Secret)

The best card from Champion’s Path is of course the secret rare version of Charizard VMAX, a card even rarer than Charizard V’s secret rare. This card is a massive depiction of Charizard in its Gigantamax form.

It has two powerful attacks with the first, Claw Slash, dealing 100 damage. The second attack is triple the threat and deals 300 damage, though to use this card players will need to discard 2 energies from the Pokémon just like for Charizard V.
