The anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure tells the long history of a family that faces off against supernatural enemies throughout the decades. Whether it is vampiric minions or shady mob bosses, these heroes (each one having a name aligned with the title JoJo) use extraordinary abilities of their own to win the day.
This show became an all-time favorite among anime fans with its multi-generational story and its colorful, manga-like presentation. It also has become a favorite among Instagram cosplayers, with its distinct animation style and elaborate costumes. Some of these fanmade designs are so on point, they seem to come straight out of the anime itself.
Bruno Bucciarati
A fan favorite from the Golden Wind arc, Bucciarati leads the gang of protagonists that the main character Giorno is a part of. His Stand is known as Sticky Fingers and can create zippers on any surface. Spanish cosplayer Akimeru captures the essence of Bucciarati perfectly. While the facial lines that are typical of a JoJo cosplay are not prominent, the poise and intelligence of the character are obvious. They nail the minute details, from the blue eyes to the signature white suit.
Giorno Giovanna
Giorno is the main character of the Golden Wind saga. An illegitimate descendant of the Joestar family, he has the Stand known as Golden Experience which can give life energy to any object. Cosplayer Shunsuke offers an excellent portrayal of Giorno with his slim physique and graceful poses. Even though he also doesn’t focus on the tell-tale facial lines, the particulars of his costume are impeccable; the blonde wig is styled to capture the Italian JoJo’s iconic curls, while the purple suit includes the character’s ladybug brooches and heart-shaped collar.
Jotaro Kujo
The main JoJo of the arc Stardust Crusaders, Jotaro is one of the most popular characters of the anime among cosplayers. He is the grandson of Joseph Joestar, and uses the super strength of his Stand, Star Platinum. Kai, a cosplayer from Singapore, physically embodies the muscular stature and the tough-guy personality that is Jotaro. When the character is first introduced, he sports a high-collar black trench coat with a gold chain and a notable visored cap. While he avoids the JoJo facial lines, Kai’s costume incorporates this to a tee.
Caesar Zeppeli
An ally of Joseph Joestar in the Battle Tendency arc, Caesar does not have a Stand, but an energy-based Ripple; his particular Ripple allows him to weaponize bubbles. Makeup artist Vxltaage presents a charming and colorful interpretation of Ceasar, with a pink scarf and a pink-and-yellow headband featured by the anime character.
His makeup for this cosplay is outstanding, making excellent use of the facial lines that emulate the animation style of the series. He also adds an extra touch by editing in Ceasar’s trademark bubbles.
Dio Brando
The most recognizable villain of the series, Dio is introduced in the first arc Phantom Blood. Later on in the series, he gains the Stand called The World, which can stop time. Makeup artist A Wild Raggy captures all of the menace and deviousness of this antagonist with their cosplay. Instead of including the JoJo facial lines, they focus on darker colors on the lips and eyes to emphasize how evil Dio really is. Raggy also dons an awesome golden jacket identical to the one in the anime, along with a detailed rendition of Dio’s heart headband.
Narancia Ghirga
Narancia is part of the gang in the Golden Wind arc, and uses the Stand called Aerosmith, which resembles a miniature fighter plane. He helps Giorno on his adventures in the Italian underworld. Cosplayer Olivia Joestar truly personifies the wide-eyed youth of this teenage gangster.
While the exact details of Narancia’s emblematic orange attire are not as sharp in this cosplay, the makeup and hair are styled to perfection. What really makes this work is the poise and the attitude; one definitive aspect of a good JoJo cosplay is posing with confidence.
Josuke Higashikata
Josuke is the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar, and the lead character of the Diamond is Unbreakable arc. His Stand is Crazy Diamond and it can restore objects to their previous state. Cosplayer Emely puts together a look that could almost be mistaken for an anime screenshot. The main draw of this cosplay is the hair and makeup; the facial lines nail the JoJo design perfectly, while the wig is a perfect replica of Josuke’s famous pompadour, right down to the small curl in the back.
Demon Dio
Before acquiring a Stand, villain Dio becomes a vampire in order to be the most powerful person in the world. As a result, he is able to wreak havoc on the Joestar family for generations. Alexey Shiryu captures this demonic essence perfectly with his cosplay. While the clothes are simpler than other Dio costumes, the selling point of this look is the makeup. With its sharp contouring lines and thick eyebrows, this face puts the spirit of the anime at the forefront. The additional filter of glowing eyes truly mimics Dio’s vampiric tendencies.
Jolyne Kujo
With the recent announcement of the upcoming Stone Ocean arc of the series, there are bound to be many more cosplays of the first female JoJo in the near future. Jolyne is the daughter of Jotaro, and her Stand is Stone Free, which enables her to unravel herself into string. Russian model Dariana is the exact likeness of the anticipated new heroine of the series. Her use of the signature JoJo facial lines is subtle, but the rest of her cosplay is very elaborate. Not only is her wig and costume highly detailed, but she also includes Jolyne’s distinct butterfly tattoo.
Older Joseph Joestar
Introduced as a young man and the main character during the Battle Tendency arc, an older Joseph returns in Stardust Crusaders to help his grandson Jotaro. He is the only JoJo who has used both a Ripple and a Stand. Russian cosplayer and makeup artist Siliciummp’s portrayal is an exact replica of the elderly Joseph. With the use of silicone, makeup, and a signature wide-brimmed hat, it is as if the friendly hero has jumped straight out the anime and into real life.
