1000-Lb. Sisters’ Tammy Slaton Says She Was ‘Suicidal, Depressed and Mean’ Before 440-Lb. Weight Loss: ‘I Value Life Now’

Tuesday, 1000 lbs. Sisters star, 37, posted a TikTok video responding to a follower who asked how her quality of life has changed since losing more than 440 pounds.

“The quality of my life has changed a lot. Before I went to rehab, I was bitter, unhappy, very suicidal, depressed and just plain mean. Everyone hated me…and they still do. Oh well,” she joked. “Back then, I had the attitude that I don’t care. I’m still working, but it’s not too bad. I’m still working on myself.”

Slaton explained that since losing the weight, she is in a much better mood and appreciates life more, which has affected not only how she treats herself but also other people.

“Personally, I have seen a huge improvement in how I treat people and my family. Just my attitude and how much happier I seem. I smile a lot more,” she said.

The reality star then proudly shared all the victories she experienced.

“I just got back from Disney World and I really had a blast! And I rode in a balloon. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this two years ago,” she said with a smile. “I guess you could say I’m bragging a little bit about myself, but I’m not trying to. I’m just patting myself on the back because I’ve accomplished something. Lose weight and live… I can finally say I’m living life.”

“Now I appreciate life where I used to hate it. I hated everything about life. And now, I just get on with it. Life throws me a curve ball and I’m just doing my best to jump the hurdle…well, let’s face it. I don’t jump anywhere,” she joked and burst out laughing.

In addition to losing enough weight to ride Disney attractions and fly into a hot air balloon, Slaton has achieved other exciting milestones documented this season 1000 lbs. Sisters.

Slaton was able to sit in the front seat of the car and fasten her seat belt without an extender. She also took her first flight and went to the beach for the first time during a family vacation in Pensacola, Florida.

Slaton spoke to PEOPLE in December about her accomplishments — and a few others — after shedding 440 lbs., down from her heyday of 725 lbs. She had bariatric surgery in July 2022 and now weighs 285 lbs.

“One of the big changes I went through this year is probably small for most people,” she said at the time. “But for me it was huge.”

“Just to be able to walk without a walker or to be pushed by a wheelchair, and there is no oxygen. I don’t even sleep with him at night anymore,” boasted Slaton. “Back then you could fit in a regular vehicle, the front seat, and then the belt buckle, and now you don’t need to use an extender. So just what seems insignificant to some people is huge to me.”
