TWELVE people have been arrested after a mass brawl broke out tonight that left three men in hospital with stab wounds.

Officers said the fight happened on Thomas Street in Woolwich, south-east London, at around 6.25pm.

Three victims were rushed to the hospital, but their condition is currently unknown.

Section 60 is in force until 9.37am on Saturday covering area SE18.

This allows the police to stop and search people without justifiable grounds.

Witnesses say several police cars and ambulances are at the scene.

Videos shared on social media show the fight breaking out outside the Earl of Chatham pub.

What is section 60?

SECTION 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 allows a police officer to stop and search a person without suspicion.

Where there is section 60, this means that the police can search anyone in a certain area, for example, when there is evidence that serious violence has occurred or is likely to occur.

It is time-limited and allows officers to stop and search people without just cause.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at around 6.25pm ​​on Friday, May 31, to a fight in Thomas Street, Woolwich.

“Police officers went to the scene and found three men with stab wounds.

“All have been taken to hospital; officers are awaiting an assessment of their condition.

“Additional police officers have been deployed to the area and a total of 12 people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigations are continuing.

“Section 60 is in force until 9.37am on June 1 covering the SE18 postcode area.”
