14-Year-Old Shoots Sister Dead During Argument Over Christmas Gifts

A Florida teenager has been arrested and charged with shooting his sister during an argument over their Christmas presents.

Abrielle Baldwin, 23, died Sunday after her brother, Damarcus, 14, shot her in the chest at their grandmother’s home, according to a press release from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. This led to their other brother, Darcus, 15, shooting Damarcus before fleeing the scene.

Both Damarcus and Abrielle were transported to a local hospital, according to the release. While the boy is currently in stable condition, his sister was “pronounced deceased” by medical staff.

“Through their investigation, detectives learned that Damarcus, 15-year-old Darcus Coley and Abrielle, who are all siblings, had gone Christmas shopping with their mother and Abrielle’s 11-month-old and 6-year-old sons,” police added. rid.

“They then went to their grandmother’s home where Damarcus, Darcus and Abrielle were involved in a verbal argument over Christmas presents.”

“After Abrielle told Damarcus to stop fighting because it was Christmas, Damarcus told Abrielle that he was going to shoot her and the 11-month-old baby she was carrying,” the statement added. “Damarcus shot Abrielle in the chest while Abrielle was holding the baby in the carrier.”

“Shortly thereafter, Darcus came out of the residence with another firearm and shot Damarcus because Damarcus had killed Abrielle,” the press release said. “Darcus then fled the scene, throwing his firearm into a nearby yard. Detectives were unable to locate the firearm used by Darcus.”

According to Fox 13, it bothered Damarcus that Darcus had more gifts than him.

“She was just a woman going about her life with her two children, trying to make a living and trying to make it,” reported Pinellas County Sheriff Gualtieri as saying about Abrielle, who was a mother of two.

“This proliferation of guns on the streets and guns in this area and guns in the hands of these kids is the worst I’ve ever seen,” Gualtieri added. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen it this bad.”

After fleeing the scene, Darcus contacted his mother and was later taken to a mental health facility after statements of self-harm, according to a police report.

“He will be transferred to the custody of the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center upon his release,” the statement added.

Damarcus is charged with 1st degree murder, child abuse and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Darcus, meanwhile, has been charged with attempted 1st degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
