A 19-year-old girl has died after she and her twin sister were stabbed at a bar in Brooklyn, New York in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. local time outside 77 4th Avenue in the Park Slope neighborhood, the NYPD said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
Samyia Spain died after suffering a stab wound to the chest, police confirmed. They said a second 19-year-old girl was in a “stable condition” after suffering a stab wound to her hand. The attack took place at the Slope Natural Plus Deli & Grill restaurant.
NBC News, WABC-TV and CBS News confirmed that the victims were twins.
“Emergency services responded and transported the treated women to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where one victim was pronounced dead and the other victim was listed in stable condition,” police added in a statement to PEOPLE. “No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.”
The witness, who did not want to be named, told NBC New York that the incident happened after the man tried to talk to the women, but they rejected him.
“He walked around the block angry. And then two or three minutes later he came up and started banging and kicking the glass door trying to get in,” the witness recalled, reports the agency.

The deli staff then locked the door. “As soon as they opened the door, he ran back into the door and started at them,” the witness added.
“They’re not sober. They get rejected and it just escalates tenfold. We (all) had a good night before this,” a witness told WABC-TV, stating that the victims were at a party.
“We had just enough left and we went to the store to get food. We all got sandwiches, beef burgers just to eat, we’re hungry, we want to go home and this happens,” they continued.
Mohammed Alba, a deli worker, told CBS News that the victims had been customers for years.
“They are very nice. I also know their father. They come here all the time, customers maybe more than, I would say, more than 10 years, I know them,” said Alba. Take someone else’s life, young lady, 19 years old, beautiful girl.
