2 Georgia Girls Abducted from Burger King Found Safe Hours After AMBER Alert Is Issued 

Two girls kidnapped from a Burger King in Georgia over the weekend have been found.

National Center for Missing and Abused Children issued an AMBER alert on Sunday after Kylie Horne, 11, and Kylann Harper, 4, were last seen at a fast food restaurant on Veterans Parkway in Columbus around 11:50 a.m.

“Kylie and Kylann are believed to be in grave danger,” the alert said, indicating that they were allegedly traveling with a woman named Mikaela Harrell and may have changed the vehicle they were traveling in.

After an AMBER Alert was issued, the Columbus Police Department announced Monday that both girls were safely located around 11:30 a.m. in the South Georgia area.

Authorities explained in a statement that “detectives quickly began an investigation and gathered information, including a detailed description of the vehicle” after responding to a report of their abduction around 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

While no new information has been released on Harrell’s whereabouts, they said the investigation into the case remains ongoing and that “charges may be filed against those involved in the kidnapping.” PEOPLE has reached out to the department for additional information.

A few hours later, the department shared on Facebook i x (formerly known as Twitter), that mother of two, Kaila Spiers, 39, was taken into custody in Tift County, GA, and charged with two counts of kidnapping.

The department thanked the U.S. Marshal’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia State Patrol for their “support and assistance” during the investigation.

“Spires will be extradited to Columbus, GA in the near future and a trial date will be set at a later date,” the update added.

According to New York Post, Spiers has “at least one prior felony conviction, a burglary charge that involved breaking and entering a dwelling.” Harrell, who has not been charged and whose relationship, if any, to the children is unknown, was on parole between August 2007 and August 2016 and has at least two convictions for possession of methamphetamine, per outlet.

There are 82 AMBER alert plans across the United States. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 1,146 children have been recovered due to AMBER alerts through September 30, 2023.
