On Friday, May 31, Netflix announced at the FYSEE panel that the sci-fi series based on Liu Cixin’s books will end after the release of the third installment. Only one season so far 3 Body problem it aired on Netflix.
3 Body problemThe eight-episode first season opens in 1960s China, when a young astrophysicist (Zine Tseng) makes a crucial decision that affects the future.
The story jumps forward several decades, to when a team of scientists and detectives work together in the 21st century to prevent a time- and space-altering event from destroying humanity.

“We incorporated a lot of what we loved from [novels by Liu Cixin] in Season 1, but the vast majority of the reason we wanted to do this series is in Season 2,” executive producer and Game of Thrones Alum DB Weiss said in a press release Friday.
“We’ve always wanted to get to the last page of the third book and it’s really, really exciting that we’re going to do it,” he added.

Weiss, Real bloodAlexander Woo and David Benioff will continue to serve as executive producers, showrunners and writers through seasons 2 and 3, according to Netflix.
The creators previously talked with The Hollywood Reporter about their plans for future seasons and how they planned to fully adapt all three novels from Cixin’s trilogy.

“We knew going into this how many hours we needed to tell the rest of the story because we had a plan all the way through,” Weiss told the news outlet. “And we have what it takes to get to the end as we planned when we started.”
“By the time we’re done with the series, it will be seven years that we’ve dedicated to it,” Benioff added. “Now we’re in a place where we can tell the rest of the story, and, yes, we have enough time to tell the rest of the story the way we want to and that’s immensely satisfying.”
The series, which was one of Netflix’s most-watched series last year after it was released on March 21, spent seven weeks in the global Top 10 streamer list, THR reported.
3 Body problem is now available to stream on Netflix.
