3 People Charged in Liam Payne's Death Including Hotel Worker: Prosecutor

Three people have been arrested and charged in Argentina in connection with the death of Liam Payne on October 16, authorities said.

The suspects are charged with abandoning a person followed by death, as well as supplying and facilitating narcotic drugs, Argentina’s state criminal and prison prosecutor’s office said in a Thursday (November 7) press release. Authorities have not named any suspects.

The One Direction star died after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

According to the statement, “Payne was not fully conscious or experiencing a state of marked reduction or loss of consciousness at the time of the fall.”

After Payne fell from the balcony to her death, “unauthorized conduct was discovered that resulted in three individuals being charged with crimes,” the statement said.

Prosecutors said in a statement that “self-harm of any kind and/or physical intervention by third parties have been ruled out” as contributing factors to his death.

A Nov. 7 statement from Argentine authorities said that in the moments before his death and for at least the last 72 hours, Payne had evidence of “multiple drug use of alcohol, cocaine and a prescribed antidepressant in his body.”

This is a developing story.
