Are you walking through your shelves wondering if you have any valuable first editions? First editions are the original editions of a book, and publishers use several different ways to indicate which version you have in your collection. Luckily, you’ll be able to tell if you have the first edition you want only on the book’s copyright page, and we’ll show you exactly what to look for. Read on for all the signs your book is a first edition and how to tell if it’s worth the big bucks to collectors.
- Make sure the words “First Edition” are printed anywhere on the copyright page at the beginning of the book.
- Look for edition numbers, such as “1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9” or “9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1,” on the copyright page. If there is a 1 somewhere on the line, then you have a first edit.
- Compare the copyright date with the original publication date of your book. If they are the same, it is most likely the first edition.
