Kristen Grindley, a graduate of the University of Washington, was discovered critically wounded by a passerby on Pullman-Albion Road on November 11, 2009. Richard Pasma, her ex-boyfriend, was named a person of interest when evidence led to him. Investigators suspect that Grindley was thrown from the truck driven by Pasma. Grindley, who suffered catastrophic injuries in the crash, is now able to walk and talk and is recovering.
Dateline: Secrets Uncovered will investigate this hit-and-run case in an episode titled The Mystery on Albion Road. The episode will air on August 10th at 8:00 PM EST.

Here are five terrifying facts about Kristen Grindley’s hit and run.
1) Investigators think Grindley was either forced out of the car or fell out.
According to authorities, Grindley was either pushed out of her ex-boyfriend Pasma’s vehicle or accidentally fell out of it the night before she was discovered unconscious. A passerby found her body on Pullman-Albion Road the next day and mistook it for a deer. She was barely clothed and barely holding on to life.
2) She suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull.
Grindley was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment. She was admitted with a fractured skull, broken shoulder, ankle and nose and other scratches and bruises.
3) Richard Pasma received nine months in prison.
Ricard Pasma was sentenced to nine months in prison after refusing to plead guilty. The judge who sentenced him to prison said he had been given the maximum prison sentence possible and that anything less would be “a slap in the face to Miss Grindley”. Pasma had no criminal past.
4) Grindley said Pasma abused him.
Grindley recalled trying to climb into Pasma’s vehicle after regaining his memories of that fateful night. However, she had no idea how she turned out. Prosecutors claim Pasma should have notified medical authorities after the incident. Interestingly, she also said that she was a victim of domestic violence while living with him.
5) The breed’s counsel claimed that Grindley was to blame for her accident.
Pasma’s attorney, Tim Esser, argued that Grindley was drunk when she fell out of the car. He briefly wrote,
“The defense argues that Kristen Grindley is solely responsible for her injuries; that in an obsessive and drunken moment she crawled into the back of Pasma’s truck and somehow managed to jump out – without his knowledge.”
Esser also presented a handwritten note from Grindley in which she said she wanted to “repair” her relationship with her lover by cutting down on her drinking.
