50 Cent Sued by Woman Claiming She Was Injured After He Threw Microphone Off Stage

50 Cent is being sued by a fan who claims she was injured after he threw a microphone off stage during a concert in Los Angeles.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the Los Angeles rapper, 48, was sued Thursday by POWER 106 radio host Bryhane Monegain, who accuses him of causing her “serious and permanent injury” and “emotional distress.”

The plaintiff claims in the lawsuit that the “In da Cluba” rapper threw the microphone after he realized it wasn’t working and hit her in the face and left wrist.

The incident happened on August 30 at the Crypto.com Arena during 50 Cent’s The Final Lap tour. At the concert, fans recorded footage showing the musician throwing two malfunctioning microphones from the stage to the crew who were near the audience. The video does not show where the microphones fell, but photos have emerged showing the alleged victim Monegain and her injuries.

The complaint says Monegain was taken by ambulance to the Los Angeles General Medical Center emergency department after the incident and was treated for injuries, including “a concussion, laceration to the forehead and left wrist pain.”

After the incident in August, Monegain filed a police report and the case was presented as a felony to the LA District Attorney. However, the prosecution then sent the case to the LA City Attorney’s office, TMZ writes. The newspaper reported in November that no criminal charges had been filed against the rapper.

Despite the current state of the case, it will remain open for one year from the date of the August 30 incident. There is still the possibility that 50 Cent could face criminal charges if there are any further incidents between him and Monegain.

After the incident, a source told PEOPLE, “This is an unfortunate isolated incident where someone was in a restricted area where they shouldn’t have been.”

At the time of the incident, 50 Cent’s lawyer Scott Leemon denied that it was intentional.

“Let’s be very clear, as I told the LAPD this afternoon, my client Curtis would never intentionally hit anyone with a microphone,” Leemon told PEOPLE in a statement. “Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t have all the facts and is misinformed.”
