In March 2020, CNN reported that 1,000 liters of Cantina Settecani red wine that was supposed to be bottled had leaked into the water pipes and through the faucets and showers of about 20 homes, 10 miles south of the northern Italian city of Castelvetro di Modena.

Giorgia Mezzacqui, who was the deputy mayor at the time, told CNN that the wine only flowed through the pipes for about three hours. The outlet also reported that the local government posted on Facebook that the leak did not pose a threat to residents’ health.

“At a time when we don’t have much to smile about, I’m glad we brought a little levity to others,” Mezzacqui told CNN at the time. “I hope that one day they will remember us and want to visit us.”
