Garba is played by 700 disabled people

As the nation celebrates Navratri, the festival of Adishakti, with characteristic fervor and faith, the Divyang Navratri Mahotsav in Ahmedabad hosted a Garba Fest to inspire people with disabilities. The occasion has been an annual tradition for the past six years. In this ceremony, nearly 700 persons with disabilities, including elderly and young people, performed Garba in honor of Aadyashakti Amba. “I was playing Garba along with my friends at the playground about ten years ago when I saw a disabled person at the venue,” organizer Divyang Garba Mahotsav Vipulbhai told ANI. I was inspired by his presence and decided to organize Garba for disabled people on the same day. It’s been six years and counting. Today, nearly seven hundred PWDs from Gujarat and surrounding areas came to play Garba.”

“It’s a great initiative. We come to this Garba, hosted by Vipul Bhai for the past six years, to partake in the festivities and atmosphere. So don’t feel excluded from this. Every year we look forward to Garba and we have made a lot of new acquaintances. Many believe that we cannot play Garba because we are confined to a wheelchair. However, the organizer of the event does not see it that way. He runs the event as if he were one of us. We have the opportunity to wear traditional Navratri clothes because of the event. We meet people and wear traditional costumes,” a participant told ANI.
