PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek at Sunday’s episode 90 Day Fiancé: 90 days agoChristian admits that Cleo is “feeling pretty gloomy and sad” as she prepares to return to America.

Cleo says she was hoping to “sort of turn off” her emotions, but broke down in tears at his departure.

“You know this journey would be a lot easier if the situations that came up were tough — like my insecurities when you’re talking to single women at a bar — but I’m just holding on to the positives,” she tells Christian.

He agrees that the couple still needs to “process and decompress [some arguments] because some of the things that have happened are kind of like dents in our relationship,” adding, “I think trust is an issue that we have to work on.”

Cleo responds by saying that their relationship status “sounds pretty lame.” She adds, “It sounds like our relationship is a little damaged.”

“That’s how relationships go,” he explains. “They’re like, like in this analogy, they’re like cars, you know, a little fender bender here and there, but it’s nothing that’s going to totally destroy the relationship.”

Cleo is still hopeful about their relationship, saying, “For me, the ups definitely outweigh the downs because I feel like the ups have been really good…” before breaking down in tears again.

“Okay, before you start crying, stop crying, because I don’t think the negatives outweigh the positives at all,” he replies. “But it’s not necessary that I can forget the things that happened because if I forget the things that happened between us that weren’t so great, we won’t be able to learn from anything.”

He adds: “We should be happy that we had a good time. And let’s just focus on that.”
