She was joined by her twin sister Martina and they appeared in all 11 series of the show hosted by Pat Sharp from 1989 to 1999.

But now she’s ditched her pompoms and ra-ra skirt to serve bookies at the Royal Victoria Pavilion in her home town of Ramsgate, Kent.

The mother of one of them said: “Since Fun House ended, Martina and I have not been on television regularly.

“We still get the odd showbiz job here and there, but it’s not my full-time job anymore and I needed something to pay the bills.

“I’ve always been a real person and love working with the public, so when the Wetherspoons job came up I thought it sounded perfect.

“I like talking to the bookies.

“It’s surprising how often I get recognized after all these years.

“It’s crazy how many people are still huge fans of Fun House.”

Melanie and her twin – who now works for cosmetics company Clarins – still occasionally attend corporate appearances with Pat at resorts and get requests to record video messages for fans.

But she said: “It would be great to get back on TV – I’d love to do Strictly or I’m A Celeb.

“I’m just waiting for a call from the producers.”

Melania’s boss, Chris Whitbourn, said: “It’s great to have Mel here.

“As a child I watched Fun House, and then I found myself interviewing for a job here.

“She is a great member of staff and an asset to the pub.”
