A ‘Dubai Chocolate Bar’ Is Going Viral on TikTok — How the Green Filling Is Made and Where to Find It in the U.S.

A sweet treat called “Dubai Chocolate Bar” is being taken over by FoodTok.

For months, TikTok was flooded with videos of an extra-large, extra-crunchy chocolate bar. The thick treat comes from Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai and is extremely colorful, both inside and out.

The outside of the bar is hand-painted with edible splatter marks – but it’s the inside that makes spectators drool. The filling is loaded with pistachios and knafeh, a Middle Eastern dessert made from sweet and buttery strands of phyllo dough. The store’s original dessert, called “Can’t Get Khafeh of It,” was only available to people in Dubai — the store doesn’t ship bars outside the city.

Of the TikTok craze, Fix Dessert Chocolatier founder Sarah Hamouda tells PEOPLE it’s been “surreal.”

“Creating these chocolate bars was my dream that I had for a long time. As an expat living in Dubai, surrounded by such a beautiful mix of cultures, I really wanted to make something that people from all over the world could relate to—something that could bring back special memories no matter where you’re from,” she says.

TikToker @mariavehera257 put the dessert in the spotlight with a video posted in December 2023. The clip, which has 4.8 million likes and 74.2 million views, shows the influencer munching on a large chocolate bar. The sound of the creator crunching on it sparked a barrage of comments, as well as speculation about the green filling.

“Crunchy than the pistachio one. 😍omg,” one commenter wrote. “I don’t think it’s guacamole😭😭,” another person commented.

A viral response from TikToks like this left Hamoud in awe.

“When I first started FIX Dessert Chocolatier, I had no idea that our chocolate bars would become so popular. It was overwhelming in the best possible way,” she adds. “Seeing how much people love them makes me so proud and I feel so lucky to be a part of this journey.”

Chefs have tried their hand at recreating the bar like Feel Good Foodie’s Yumna Jawad, who detailed the steps to create a convincing copy.

In Jawada’s do-it-yourself version, she separates strands of phyllo dough and fry them in a pan with butter. When it becomes crispy and golden, mix in the pistachio cream with pieces of nuts. Then he melts the chocolate and fills the mold with a thick layer of knafeh with chocolate sandwiched nuts.

Copycat versions sold on Amazon and Etsy have mixed reviews and range in price from $18 to $54. Now patisseries across the country have started selling their own versions of pistachios. Nuts Factory stores in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts offer their take on the candy bar, as do Truman Chocolates in Texas, Farhat Sweets in Michigan and Sweeties Candy Cottage in Long Island, New York.

TikTok was full of other green recipes this summer.

Logan Moffitt, who goes by the name @logagm on TikTok, has been giving his followers almost daily recipes for cucumber salad, and they all start with his words: “Sometimes you have to eat the whole cucumber.”
