A young squirrel with a broken leg was found by the roadside in the town of Ullapool, Scotland.

Apparently the animal was hit by a car or fell from a tree. A man cares for a sick red squirrel with biscuits and a fruit smoothie to help with digestion

Local resident Noel Hawkins, who has experience in rescuing animals, took care of the squirrel.

Although the British Divers Marine Life Rescue volunteer mainly handles whales and dolphins, he couldn’t leave the animal in trouble and decided to help it.

First, Noel reached out to experts – a local veterinarian, a physiotherapist and a protein specialist, who consulted him from afar.

According to them, the squirrel is not hopeless, but in the worst case scenario, if the child’s brain is damaged, it can be forever dependent on the person.

Noel and partner Janice hope to be able to return the squirrel to the wild.

Ted (as they call their ward) is syringe-fed three times a day with cat milk mixed with “digestible” biscuits and a fruit smoothie made with strawberries, apples, nuts, and sunflower seeds. Such a diet is believed to help squirrels grow stronger and gain strength.

Ted slept in a cage with a fleece hat filled with straw.

Because the squirrel’s paw was injured, Noel arranged for a physiotherapist to visit the home.

His counseling and massage helped the animal recover faster from a broken bone.

Now, Ted looks and feels better thanks to a special diet and the careful care of lifeguards.

But the squirrel’s appetite and possible neurological problems made Noel extremely worried.

He doesn’t want to turn the beautiful wild animal into a pet and hopes to release it into the wild next spring.

But if Ted can never live with his loved ones again, Noel is ready to give him a permanent home. Because he and Janice had managed to bond with the guardian they had so touchingly saved from death.
