Profession
Although Aakash was introduced to stand-up comedy through 13 seasons of Comedy Central Presents (a stand-up comedy DVD series) given to him by his brother Aditya Mehta, the impetus for Aakash to try stand-up comedy came from a compliment from a “beautiful girl” whom he called “just a friend”. In an interview, he said:
I knew my jokes made people laugh occasionally, but it wasn’t until she complimented me that I started doing more public speaking. And then I kept doing it because I really fell in love with the art.”
Motivated by the praise, he performed his first stand-up show at the college festival “Kaleidoscope” at Sophia College. Around 2010 or 2011, Aakash signed up for his first open mic performance. In an interview, while describing his first open mic performance, he said,
I walked out and walked into this room, this open mic venue, and I was blown away! It was a room full of life, people were talking, drinking, and laughing. It’s been a love story ever since; I discovered comedy.”
On August 31, 2015, he uploaded his first stand-up comedy video on his YouTube channel, which was a comedy on the theme of “New Relationships”.
Since then, he has uploaded various stand-up videos on his YouTube channel, such as Breaking Up with Girlfriend Shopping, Having a Baby in India, Sex Education, etc. In 2018, Aakash Mehta starred in the documentary Ab Mujhe Funny Banna Hai, directed by Sumedh Natu. The documentary showcased the struggles and hardships of a stand-up comedian outside the stage.
In 2018, Aakash Mehta and his friend Navin Noronha started a podcast, Varta Lab, where they invite their friends and acquaintances to interview them. He also recorded a Varta Lab podcast with her mother, Deena Mehta, a businesswoman, social activist and the first female president of the Bombay Stock Exchange.

- Aakash studied till Class 4 in a Gujarati school. Surprisingly, the school he attended in Mumbai was mainly Marathi-medium.
- Previously, Aakash aspired to be a musician and took an online songwriting course at Berklee College of Music. In an interview, he said:
Music carries strong emotions, while comedy does not. I personally have never felt the need to combine the two.”
- Unlike other comedians who write scripts for their stand-up shows, Aakash never follows a formula or script. In an interview, he said:
I never thought about the script. I haven’t written a joke in the last four years.”
- Despite being a stand-up comedian who often performs in front of hundreds of people, Aakash suffers from social anxiety disorder. It may sound contradictory, but the comedian has been facing this problem since his junior college days. He used to feel threatened by his classmates and reciprocated the feeling with rude and arrogant behavior. As a result, he had very few friends since childhood. Over time, Aakash transformed his fear into a defense mechanism, which he often talks about in interviews.
