Aalim Hakim is an Indian celebrity hairstylist known for styling the hair of actors and actresses in many movies and commercials. He is one of the most popular hairstylists in India. He owns Hakim’s Aalim salon chain.

Aalim Hakim was born on Sunday, August 25, 1974, at Kammu Jaffer Hospital, Bhendi Bazaar area, Mumbai, Maharashtra (age 39 years; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Virgo. After the death of his father at the age of 9, he began to learn the nuances of barbering, often getting his hair cut in his father’s shop under the watchful eye of his mother. Later, he studied at Mithibai College in Mumbai and during his first year in college, he decided to become a barber to carry on his father’s legacy and build it into a brand. During his first few years as a barber, he cut hair for friends and began to gain recognition.

His father Hakim Kairanvi is a very popular hairdresser. His father, who hails from Kairana in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, worked as a hairdresser at Madame Jacques’s salon at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai and later opened his own salon at his home in Mumbai’s Bundi Bazar. His father cut the hair of famous actors and celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Sunil Dutt, Muhammad Ali and Bruce Lee. His father died on March 28, 1984, at the age of 39.
His mother’s name was Zebnitsa. He has two sisters named Tehzeeb and Tabir.

He believes in Islam. He said in a 2018 interview that he follows his religious beliefs through his own practices and that no one should force anyone to follow any religious practice. He revealed that when registering the birth of his son Sky, he mentioned that Sky’s religious belief was that of human beings. He also said that his wife Shano was a Sikh and he had never asked her about her religion.
Start Hakim’s Aalim
Inspired by his father’s vision and heart of gold, Aalim opened a salon called Hakim’s Aalim on the balcony of his home at the age of 16. The salon has a fan, basin and salon chair. His college friends are actor Vivek Oberoi and the music director duo of Shreyas Talpade and Sajid-Wajid, and choreographer Bosco Martis, who often took them home to give them haircuts.
He once cut friends’ hair for free and tried different hairstyles, which were well received by others. After a few days, he decided to charge for the service, initially setting the price for a haircut at 20 rupees, and when he added shampoo to the service, he increased the price to 30 rupees for a haircut with shampoo. He later rented an air conditioner and doubled the cost. He started earning money through work and bought an air conditioner.
Learn from an international hairdresser
Binafer, a girl who worked at L’Oreal, discovered his talent and sent him to Paris, France to learn more about barbering. He also trained in Austria with a barber named Butrum. He trained under different barbers, which boosted his confidence and desire to build Hakim’s Aakim into a big brand.

Expansion of Aalim Outlets in Hakim
After gaining some recognition, he started hiring people who wanted to become hairdressers and opened many branches in different cities across India and one in Dubai.
He said in an interview that he had never taken any loan to open any outlets. He also revealed that he owns stores in Mumbai and is giving away stores in other cities as franchises. In addition to cutting and styling, Hakim’s Aalim also offers straightening and reshaping treatments, and hair coloring services. The design of most of his stores was influenced by the bohemian style and was considered a luxury salon.
Hakim’s Aalim (HA) Hairdressing Academy
After opening three salons in Mumbai, Aalim Hakim aimed to start his own academy where he would teach the basics of hair cutting and styling and later teach many advanced courses to budding professional barbers. He said in an interview that he has taught more than 100,000 barbers at his college in Versova, Mumbai. Different courses have different eligibility criteria depending on the experience of the student (hairdresser).

His favorite brands of scissors and razors are Jaguar and Joewell, and he prefers 5-inch lengths for regular haircuts. He prefers Matt products and Elnett hairspray. He uses different brushes for different purposes, such as a paddle brush for blow-drying, a wooden round brush or a hot brush for sculpting the body, an airy brush for creating puffs, and a bow brush for fashionable looks. His favorite combs are a cutting comb for finer trims and a barber comb for beards, mustaches, sideburns and nape. He uses a root iron for a natural look with a hint of straightness, a root curler to add volume at the base, and a blow dryer with the right nozzle along with a diffuser to remove excess moisture.

Facts/Trivia
- His parents used to call him “Goldie”, his friends nicknamed him Limca and his wife called him Aaloo.
- While in college, he acted in plays and won several awards for his acting skills; however, he decided to become a barber.
- He revealed in an interview that he was ridiculed by some of his college classmates when he said he wanted to be a barber; however, his friends always supported him and inspired him to focus on his vision.
- In April 2023, he appeared on an episode of “The Kapil Sharma Show” and revealed that he asked Prabhas to play badminton to see how much his hair bounced so that he could play badminton for “Baahubali” Hairstyles designed accordingly for the movie. He said he added extensions to Prabhas’ hair to give it a bouncy look while riding.
- In 2017, after a fatwa was issued against Sonu Nigam, he shaved his head and demanded Rs 10 lakh. He said Sonu Nigam was not against any religion. He said,
Sonu Nigam did not say anything to Azan. He was not against any prayer. Sonu was just talking about the loudspeaker and not about any religion. If he (Maulvi) has 10 lakh rupees, then he should give it to me and I will donate it to some charity. ”
- His first film project as a hairstylist was to style Chandrachoor Singh for the film Maachis and Manoj Bajpayee for the film Satya.
- When he started expanding the salon at home, his family became angry with him because they had less space and his salon took up most of the house.
