Aaron Rodgers now holds one NFL record from seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who is probably fine with losing: most sacks by a quarterback in NFL history.
But Rodgers, 41, still has a sense of humor about the new marker.
After Sunday’s Dec. 29 game between Rodgers’ New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills, which the Jets lost 40-14, the quarterback made a knowing joke during the postgame press conference.
“Yeah, I got Tom on it,” he told reporters after the game, according to Bleacher Report.
Rodgers surpassed Brady’s record by three and now has 568 sacks, while the retired NFL star finished his career with 565.
The new record followed the Jets’ 12th loss of the 2024-25 season, tying Rodgers for the second-most Associated Press running backs in the history of the award, according to ESPN. He was previously named NFL MVP by the Associated Press for the 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2021 NFL seasons.

Rodgers and the Jets will miss the playoffs this season, after hoping in September that the now-fully-healthy QB would lead the team to the Super Bowl. “I mean, it’s kind of like the season, it just got away from us,” Rodgers said on Dec. 29, according to Bleacher Report. “Too many games got away from us. We were moving the ball and then we just hit a wall and that’s kind of the season.”

The recent tumultuous season also follows Rodgers’ admission that his time with the team is uncertain. Sports analyst Jim Nantz said during Sunday’s CBS broadcast of the game that Rodgers gave a vague answer when asked about his future with the Jets.
“He looked us straight in the eye and said, ‘I really don’t know. I’m going to take some time,” Nantz, 65, said.
Aaron Rodgers denies rumors he was involved in Jets firing Head coach: ‘I abhor every one of those allegations’
Meanwhile, more than a month ago, SNY reported that sources said “the team prefers to move on from Rodgers.” However, there have been no reported updates on the Jets’ thoughts on keeping Rodgers, who is under contract through 2025.
If the team part ways with Rodgers, it will coincide with their search for their next head coach. The team fired Roberto Saleh earlier this season on October 8th.
