Abhijit Mukherjee is an Indian politician affiliated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He is the son of the late Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

Abhijit Mukherjee was born on Saturday, January 2, 1960 (61 years old in 2021) in Hooghly, West Bengal. His star sign is Capricorn. After completing his schooling, Abhijit attended Jadavpur University in Kolkata and obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in the field of Mechanical in 1984. Abhijit Mukherjee was born into a family with a political history. His grandfather, Kamalda Kinkar Mukherjee, was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Council from 1952 to 1964, representing the Indian National Congress, and was an active member of the Indian Independence Movement. However, in his initial years, Abhijit Mukherjee worked in the corporate world, working for companies such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Steel Authority of India Limited, and Maruti Udyog Limited. After working in the corporate world for more than 20 years, Abhijit decided to switch careers and join politics. In 2012, when Pranab Mukherjee was appointed President of India, Abhijit Mukherjee contested the elections from the Janjipur Lok Sabha constituency. He won the by-election by a margin of 2,536 votes, defeating his opponent Muzaffar Hussain from the Communist Party of India (Marxist). In 2014, he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha from the Janjipur constituency. However, in the 2019 elections, he lost to the Trinamool Congress candidate Khalilur Rahaman. On July 5, 2021, Abhijit left the Indian National Congress and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

In 2012, when the nation was protesting against the accused in the Nirbhaya gang rape case and people took to the streets demanding justice, Abhijit Mukherjee courted controversy in an interview when he made insensitive remarks about women at the protest site. He said:
I call the protests in Delhi the Pink Revolution, as it is known. It is becoming fashionable to take to the streets with candles in hand. These people are completely out of touch with reality. They go to discos. I know student movements very well and I bet that most of the protesters are not students. They are wrinkled, painted women who are seeking two minutes of fame and being interviewed on TV. The protesters are not of the student age.”
Abhijit’s remarks sparked outrage in the media, with many accusing him of being insensitive to the victims and protesters.
