Abhishek Singhvi is a senior Indian lawyer in the Supreme Court of India and a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He represents the state of West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi was born on 24 February 1959 (Tuesday) (61 years old in 2020) in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He obtained his BA (Hons) from St Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and then went abroad for further studies. He obtained his MA and PhD from Trinity College, Cambridge and completed his PhD under the guidance of constitutional lawyer Sir William Wade. The topic of his PhD thesis was Emergency Powers. After obtaining his PhD, Abhishek Singhvi went to Harvard University to study Public Interest Law, which marked the beginning of his journey in the field of law.

Family, Caste and Wife
Abhishek Singhvi was born into a Marwari family in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Abhishek Singhvi’s father, Dr. Lakshmi Mal Singhvi, is a scholar of Jain history and culture and one of India’s top lawyers. His father was the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1991 to 1997, the second longest serving commissioner.
His mother Kamla Singhvi is a housewife. He married Anita Singhvi, a famous Ghazal and Sufi singer, in 1982. He has two sons, Avishkar Singhvi and Anubhav Singhvi.
Profession
After completing his formal education and public interest studies at Harvard University, he returned to India and started practicing law. In 2001, he was appointed as the national spokesperson of the Indian National Congress (INC). In April 2006, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha. In August 2006, he became a member of the Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice and served as a member of the committee till July 2011. He became a member of the Joint Office Committee to review the constitutional and legal status of the Office of Profit (August 2006-August 2007). He was also a member of the Committee on Privileges and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of External Affairs. In July 2011, he became the Chairman of the Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice and served as a member of the General Purpose Committee. Abhishek Singhvi has been serving as the spokesperson of the Indian National Congress since July 2012.

- Abhishek Singhvi found himself in a hot seat when a CD containing a controversial recording went viral in the media. The CD allegedly featured a controversial sexual encounter between Abhishek Singhvi and a woman. However, Singhvi denied any such allegations and said that the CD had been tampered with. Amid the chaos, Singhvi decided to give up his post as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee. It was later discovered that the CD was leaked by one of Singhvi’s old staffers and the matter was taken to court. However, the matter was later settled out of court.
- The politician was embroiled in a controversy for failing to submit the required documents to prove the legitimacy of his claim to the Income Tax Settlement Board. He was later fined and asked to pay a penalty of Rs 57 crore. The money in his account was used to pay for paralegals and purchase office equipment such as laptops for his employees.

- Abhishek Singhvi is well-read and knowledgeable and from time to time he conducts webinars either in person or with fellow lawyers to educate legal volunteers and young lawyers by sharing his experience and knowledge.
- Singhvi has written a book titled Straight Talk which proposes some new reforms and changes in the way the law and parliament function. In it he suggests that fast-track courts should be set up to deal with all election-related cases.
