Abijit Ganguly is an Indian stand-up comedian, freelance writer and YouTuber, known for his talk shows inspired by events from his daily life, marital life, and occasional self-mockery and political satire. Abijit Ganguly is one of the very few bilingual comedians who performs in both Hindi and English.

As a comedian

Abhijit made his debut as a comedian in 2010 at an open mic event in Delhi. The event was organized by the comedy group Cheese Monkey Mafia. His content was appreciated by people and he got more performance opportunities in bars, pubs and corporate events. Earlier, he started out as a part-time comedy performer. However, after 2014, he started taking up comedy as a full-time profession. After performing in several cafes and bars, he joined Canvas Comedy Club and That Comedy Club in Bangalore. He has performed in different cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Nagpur, etc. Apart from India, Abhijit has performed in Dubai, Australia, Nepal and Tanzania.

In 2017, Abhijit Ganguly had a disagreement with Kapil Sharma and accused the latter of plagiarism. The basis of the accusation was that Kapil Sharma used one of Abhijit’s jokes in the 100th episode of his show, The Kapil Sharma Show. This news did not go down well with Kapil Sharma’s fans, who abused Abhijit Ganguly on various social media platforms. In response, Abhijit posted a video on his YouTube channel mocking Kapil Sharma’s fans for abusing him.

  • Abhijit was introduced to stand-up comedy when he attended an event at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi while pursuing his Masters. In an interview, he said:

    I used to go to India Habitat Centre to watch plays and one day I came across a performance by Abish Mathew and I was blown away. I loved the show so much that I sent an email to the organiser of the show and asked if I could try my luck. To my surprise, he wrote back and invited me to an open mic performance and that’s how my journey began.”

  • He first presented his talk show on YouTube. Abijit started uploading short clips of his performances on his YouTube channel. On 27 November 2014, he uploaded his first video “Indian 20-something Problems, Parents and Marriage” on YouTube.

  • Abijit has performed over 1,000 shows, starting from small coffee houses to touring different countries to solo shows. In a conversation with The Hindu, Abijit talked about how he improves the content of different shows. He said:

    Being famous is just the first step. Once you’ve established yourself, there’s a constant desire to get better. If I look back at a video I uploaded three years ago and I don’t think it needs improvement, then I haven’t honed my skills. And the day you stop improving your art is the day you lose it.”

  • Abhijit Ganguly was invited as a TEDx speaker at IIT Delhi in 2016 and TEDx RGNUL in 2017, where he spoke about how certain “out-of-the-box” life decisions can completely change a person’s life. He also shared his experiences in the comedy industry and talked about the things and life events that inspired him to create new content for his show.

  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, like many comedians, Abhijit Ganguly also started hosting online talk shows using Zoom video calls. Apart from these shows, Abhijit has also started a series called “The Kaafi Random Quiz” for his YouTube channel. In this show, he invites friends over Zoom video and asks them random questions about food, places, culture, etc. He also has a playlist called “Abijit Mann Ki Baat” where he posts his rants.
