A young pianist called Lucy, aged 13, who is blind and autistic, wowed audiences with her rendition of Chopin’s Nocturne in B minor on Channel 4’s ‘The Piano’, filmed at Leeds railway station. The judges, famous musicians Lang Lang and Mika, were amazed by her incredible talent.
The show features amateur musicians playing public pianos in British train stations, and Lang Lang and Mika unwittingly evaluate them for further opportunities. Lucy’s performance stood out due to her easy mastery of the challenging composition.
Lucy’s journey into music began during her battle with eye cancer as a child. Her mother, Candice, told stories of how music provided comfort in the midst of medical procedures. Lucy would play melodies on the keyboard, winning over the people around her in difficult times.
With the support of The Amber Trust, an organization that helps blind musicians, Lucy received a unique musical education. Her teacher, Daniel Bath, developed a method that allowed Lucy to learn by feeling his fingers on the piano keys, demonstrating her exceptional musical understanding.
