Acharya Pratishtha

Acharya Pratishtha is an Indian yoga guru, Kathak master, former diplomat and author. She is a founding member of the Bharat Academy of Performing Arts, an Indian classical dance music and yoga academy in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

She attended a convent school. She received her BA with Honors in English, Yoga and Kathak from Delhi University from 2001 to 2003. Later, she pursued her master’s degree at Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Kailagh, Chhattisgarh. She holds a Kathak Diploma from Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. She played Visharad at the Bhatkandar Music Academy in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and Prabhakar at the Prayag Sangit Samiti in Allahabad.

At the age of 3, she began learning Kathak, an Indian classical dance form. Later, she won a gold medal in Kathak from National Kathak Institute, New Delhi. She is one of the Indian classical dancers who inspires Kathak dancers through the Indian classical dance program “Nritya Naad” which is broadcast thrice a day on Zee network channel. Acharya Pratishtha helps promote Indian culture through various sources such as magazines, books, CDs, online videos, and television and radio programs. She incorporates various social issues such as abortion, women’s emancipation, child labor and education, dowry, etc. into her dance performances to create awareness.

She founded a dance academy called Mokshayatan Dance Foundation in 2001. She is the founder and principal of Bharat Academy of Performing Arts, an Indian classical dance, music and yoga academy in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She is well versed in various Kathak movements like ‘laya’, ‘footwork’, ‘chakkar’ and ‘Bhaava’.

She has performed Kathak dance on several national and international platforms and brought many honors to India. In addition to performing Kathak dance, she has trained many Kathak students in India and other countries. She was selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ICCR to promote Kathak and Yoga in Johannesburg and Jakarta. She was trained in Kathak dance under Pandit Rajendra Gangani of Jaipur Gharana. Acharya Pratishtha is a graded artist at Doordarshan and collaborates with Spic Macay and IRCEN, an initiative supporting budding artists in India. She has worked with many famous Kathak masters such as Guru Rajendra Gangani, Guru Jaikishan Maharaj, Guru Geetanjali Lal and Ms. Aditi Mangaldas.

She has loved yoga since she was a child because her father is a famous yoga master. As a child, she often accompanied her father to various yoga workshops, camps, and trips. She then received professional yoga training from Guru Shankar Apte at Kathak Kendra, New Delhi for nearly 6 years. At the age of 20, she started working as a yoga consultant. On October 2, 2007, she was selected as the youngest Yogacharyaa and spiritual healer by Zee Network and World Yoga Organization. Her yoga show ‘Jago Bharat Dhyan Yog Andolan’ is aired three times a day on Zee Jagran TV channel. Apart from Zee channel, she has also appeared in yoga programs on several channels including ETV, India TV, Total TV and Doordarshan.

She also performed yoga for the commercial film “Incredible India” released by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of India. Acharya Pratishtha conducts various yoga camps for corporates, students, police and prisoners. Acharya Pratishtha has also worked as a yoga consultant at Amatrra Health Spa and Ashoka Hotel and conducted yoga classes at “Mokshayatan International” for Indian and foreign yoga enthusiasts. Apart from India, she has conducted various yoga workshops in countries such as Japan, South Africa, Mauritius and China. In 2006, 2008 and 2009 she choreographed yoga talks for the Government Ministry of Health0f. Indian.

Acharya Pratishtha has authored 5 books on Yoga and Kathak. When she was 25, she published her first book, Diabetes, Why Die – On a Loose Side? ” Published by Mokshayatan International Yogashram. Her book “Essentials of Kathak” was published on January 26, 2014 by the Embassy of India in Jakarta and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
