Action Bronson is clear about the reasons for his fitness journey.
The “Actin Crazy” rapper, 39, performed at the TCS New York City Kick-Off Party to kick off the New Balance Marathon on Friday, talking to PEOPLE about staying committed to his workouts.
“I want to stay alive,” says Bronson. “I want to stay alive and enjoy all these tremendous possibilities that lie ahead of us and live all this beauty that is around us every day. Honestly, that’s it.”
Bronson lost more than 130 pounds. after he decided on a health transformation in 2020, a life change inspired by the birth of his son. He and wife Valeria welcomed their first baby, Benicia, in November 2019, followed by daughter Lennox Daisy, three years later.
“I just want to be there for the family to make sure they’re good for their journey through life. I don’t care about myself,” says Bronson.

The artist says that “every aspect of life has changed” since putting his health first. Besides staying healthy to be with his family, Bronson says his second goal is to get “cut.”
“Every day I wake up happy. Even when I was really fat, I was happy, but I don’t know if I was, maybe it was a lie. But that’s just my mentality; I’m just a happy guy,” he says, adding: “Everything goes together. But I want to be connected… I want.”
Bronson says he and Valeria do Pilates together, which he admits is more of a challenge than he initially anticipated.
“My wife likes it. We practice pilates together. I like it [like it] because it’s hard as a mother—er. It’s not easy,” he says. “One would think that something like that is easier. It just looks like you’re not doing much, but s— it’s hard.”
