‘Breakup’ renewed for second season: ‘You’ll feel like you never left’
Severance pay premiered on Apple TV+ in February 2022 and kept viewers hooked through its finale in April 2022. Created by Dan Erickson, the series follows Scott’s Mark as he undergoes a procedure recommended by his employer, Lumon Industries, which separates the work life of the staff from their personal lives, allowing them to stay focused on the task at hand. However, Mark gradually uncovers the secrets that lie beneath the surface – and what Lumon is really up to.
Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Dichen Lachman, Michael Chernus, John Turturro, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette also starred in the series’ debut season, which was praised by critics and received 14 nominations at the 74th Primetime Awards Emmy Award.
Apple TV+ renewed the psychological drama for a second season just two days before its finale in April 2022. It was later announced that new stars joining the second season include Alia Shawkat, Gwendoline Christie, John Noble, Merritt Wever, Bob Balaban, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robby Benson and Stefano Carannante.

Production on the upcoming installment was delayed due to the now resolved Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes, which ended last September and November, respectively.
Earlier this month, Stiller gave an update on the stalled second season, sharing further X (formerly Twitter) that they were “working on” returning it. He had previously revealed months before Northernere “it was always a story of multiple seasons.”
“I’m really happy that we can continue it,” he said in an Apple TV+ press release at the time. “I’m grateful to our partners at Apple TV+ who have been behind it all the way. Kudos to Keira!”
