Facts / Trivia
- Aditi Swami is coached by Pravin Sawant.
- Her father Gopichand was instrumental in her success in archery. He made a big decision to relocate from their village to Satara, about 15 kilometers away, in order to provide Aditi with better sports facilities. He believed Aditi should excel in at least one sport, a move that made it possible for her to pursue archery.
- At 12, Aditi visited Satara’s Shahu Stadium, where her father introduced her to various sports. While many of the kids were involved in soccer and track and field, it was the small group of archers who set the targets that caught Aditi’s attention. Soon after, she began training under coach Pravin Sawant at an archery academy built on a sugarcane field, practicing for three hours on weekdays and more than five hours on weekends. Talking about this in an interview, Gopichand said her interest was further piqued when he showed her videos of famous archery athletes, including 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Deepika Kumari and Asian Games gold medalist Abhishek Verma.
- According to Gopichand, Aditi’s coach noticed how good she was in archery and advised him that she needed her own bow to get to the next level. Realizing that professional bows could be quite expensive and beyond his financial means, Gopichand applied for a loan which later came to Rs. 1 million rupees to ensure that Aditi has the equipment needed to perform well.
