Career
Adrian Newey began his racing career after graduating, working for the Fittipaldi Formula One team under Harvey Postlethwaite. He also became a member of the March group. He gave the March GTP sports car a very successful shape and won the IMSA GTP Championship two years in a row in 1984. Newey left for the March IndyCar expansion in 1984, acting as both designer and race builder for Bobby Rahal. Newey’s March 85C strategy won the 1985 CART Championship with Al Unser and the 1985 Indy 500 with Danny Sullivan.
In 1986, Newey joined Kraco to develop Michael Andretti’s car, his March 86C design winning the CART Championship and the Indianapolis 500 with Bobby Rahal. He was nominated for the Order of the British Empire. In 1985 and 1986, his designs were awarded CART honors. As a result, Newey drove the vehicle for the first time at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed. He currently serves as the Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull Racing.
