Anna DeGuzman’s magic skills are top notch, but it seems that pranks may not be her forte after the latest one America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League.
Monday’s episode American talent spinoff saw an exciting start to the first round of the semi-finals. While all 10 semi-finalists had incredible performances, it was probably Anna’s magic point that fans were talking about the most.
Midway through the episode, the season 18 magician took the stage and immediately invited judges Howie Mandel and Mel B to join her in a routine, which consisted of close-up magic using playing cards and dollar bills.
At one point, Anna held out five playing cards and asked Mel to tell her how many he was holding. Mel hesitated and answered with difficulty, admitting, “I didn’t know I had to count them!” The audience then laughed as Anna encouraged them to help Mel answer correctly.
Soon after, Anna asked Mel what colors the backs of the cards were. The “Spice Up Your Life” singer was quick to reply “red”, which Anna confirmed was correct before joking that Simon Cowell “seemed so worried about you”.
Later in the act, Anna helped lead Mel as they all folded a dollar bill and placed them in Mel’s closed palm. For this trick, Mel got a $1 bill and Anna got a $100 bill. But when Anna pulled one out of Mel’s hand and asked her to guess which one she grabbed, Mel responded by saying “[The] 20.”

The audience burst into laughter, and Anna simply stated, “I don’t think that was an option.” Howie repeated that it was a $1 or $100 bill and Simon sat at the table shaking his head.
“It’s okay. It’s okay, you’re beautiful,” Anna joked in response, prompting Heidi Klum to quietly say, “That’s rude!”
Then, at the end of her performance, Anna asked Mel to read the serial number of the dollar bill she was holding. When Mel correctly read “3” as the first number, Anna joked, “Wow, she can read!”
That joke did not go down well with the audience, who were all gasping and whistling. Heidi looked angry from her seat on the judging panel, while Mel also had a skeptical look on her face.
Although her magic went off without a hitch, the judges couldn’t help but point out her awkward humor in their feedback afterwards, especially after Anna declared, “I always pick the best assistants!”
“I’m not so sure about that,” Simon joked, prompting Anna to say: “I should have picked Heidi.” When the crowd started booing again, Anna insisted, “I’m just kidding!” and Howie was urging Anna to keep quiet.
Heidi finally shared her thoughts, telling Anna, “I don’t know if I liked it this much today, I have to be honest with you. There was a lot of talk, and some of the stories you told, I didn’t like that much either. What you said Mel, it kind of hurt me. I really, really like you, and that didn’t make me like you so much.”
Anna appeared to be taken aback by Heidi’s comments, telling the model: “I thought we were both joking with each other!” And despite what fans may have thought, Mel also insisted: “I thought so too!”

Simon then chimed in, telling his fellow judges: “To be fair, I think Anna was joking. However, I don’t think you had the best assist in the world with you, and the reveal just didn’t seem like such a big reveal.”
Finally, Mel had her moment to talk and used it to make things right with Anna. – I really like you – she said to the young magician.
“I like you too,” Anna replied on stage. “I hope you know I was joking!”
Mel admitted it was just a playful joke and reassured Anna: “It went over my head… I was watching what you were doing and it was really good, so good for you!”
But Heidi still wasn’t convinced. After Anna left the stage, she repeated to Mel, “I thought that was mean to you!”
Mel didn’t mind, though. “I didn’t listen to her!” she insisted.

As for Anna, she felt the heat of the judges’ feedback, telling cameras backstage: “The pressure just got to me and I was really scared of all the other championship performances that came before me.”
“I hope I get another chance to show them what I’ve got in the final,” she added.
Unfortunately, Anna did not get that opportunity. Only three acts moved on to the finals after Monday’s episode — two of which won the night’s Golden Buzzers.
Singer Kodi Lee, who was originally on Simon’s Dream Team, received Howie’s Golden Buzzer and will now compete on his team, while Aidan Bryant, who was on Heidi’s Dream Team, stole Mel away with his Golden Buzzer.
The last act to make it to the finals was The Pack Drumline, who are on Simon’s Dream Team and were voted America.
