He competed in and won many national and international championships. In 2016, he participated in the South Asian Games in Guwahati and won gold and silver medals in the 1500m and 800m events respectively. He participated in the Asian Athletics Championships (2023) in Bangkok, Thailand, and won the gold medal in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3 minutes and 41.51 seconds. In an interview, Ajayi discussed the options available to him after winning gold at the Asia Games. He also talked about his training and competition. He said,
Winning the gold medal at the Asian Games was a must for me because it was my ticket to the World Athletics Championships. From February 21st to the end of May, I received training in Colorado, USA. After that, I participated in the Indian Inter-State Athletics Championships and won a silver medal. I knew I had to do well in Asian athletics. Now, I will try to win a gold medal in the Olympics. ”
