He participated in the Asian Athletics Championships (2023) in Bangkok, Thailand, and won the gold medal in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3 minutes and 41.51 seconds. In an interview, Ajayi discussed the options available to him after winning gold at the Asia Games. He also talked about his training and competition. He said,
Winning the gold medal at the Asian Games was a must for me because it was my ticket to the World Athletics Championships. From February 21st to the end of May, I received training in Colorado, USA. After that, I participated in the Indian Inter-State Athletics Championships and won a silver medal. I knew I had to do well in Asian athletics. Now, I will try to win a gold medal in the Olympics. ”
In October 2023, Ajay Kumar Saroj represented India at the 19th Asian Games (2022) in Hangzhou, China, and won the silver medal in the men’s 1500-meter race.
