He made his Twenty20 debut for Himachal Pradesh on 18 November 2019 against Railways in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Sector 16 Stadium in Chandigarh.

In February 2020, Akash scored his maiden century in first-class cricket when he scored 141 runs for Himachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy against Uttar Pradesh. He made his debut for Himachal Pradesh Group A against Maharashtra in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy at the KL Saini Stadium in Jaipur on 21 February 2021; Maha Rashtra won by 59 runs. He was part of the Himachal Pradesh team that won the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time in the 2021-22 season.

His performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 was eye-catching as he emerged as Himachal Pradesh’s top run-getter with 216 runs, an average of 54 and a strike rate of 163.63.
