Al Michaels is on a winning streak. His opponent? Vegetables.
The sports commentator, 78, opened up about his lifelong aversion to the produce in an interview with CNN, telling reporter Chris Wallace that he hasn’t — at least, as Wallace put it, “knowingly” — eaten a single vegetable in his entire life.
In an excerpt from CNN Who is talking to Chris Wallace, which premiered Friday on Max, Michaels said his non-veg diet dates back to his childhood.

“I was born when my parents were 18,” Michaels told the station. “So [my mom] just let me run the course. And I always pushed vegetables. To date, no.”
He continued, “And I guess I’ve proved, Chris, that man doesn’t need vegetables to survive.”

When asked if it was possible that Michaels, if he had actually tried it, actually enjoyed a non-objectionable vegetable like carrots, the commenter replied, “Oh please.”
“No, it’s an undesirable vegetable,” he continued.
And how does he know that, without ever having tasted the fruit of an orange? “I’m looking at it [and] I just don’t like the way it looks either. And I imagine what it might taste like, in terms of its texture.”
“It just doesn’t look like something that would go over well,” he added.

Barstool Sports shared a clip of the clip on X, and users had a lot to say about Michaels’ anti-veg lifestyle.
Some people praised the commenter, writing things like “Impressive” and “Real heroes don’t wear capes.”
Others questioned his story (“How is that possible!?”), while others related to his aversion.
“He really likes me 😭💀,” wrote one user.

This is not the first time that Michaels has openly talked about his diet.
“I don’t eat vegetables,” he said The New York Times in 2012. “Nothing. I never ate vegetables.”
He added: “As I got older, I just didn’t want to look at them. If I died now, I might be the human being who lived the longest without eating vegetables.”
