Al Roker Teases Wife Deborah Roberts About 'Chemistry' with 20/20 Co-Anchor David Muir: 'It's a Little Too Good'

Al Roker keeps a close eye on wife Deborah Roberts and her new co-host.

In a joint interview at Party tonightOn “Spilling the E-Tea” on Friday, Roker, 69, joked about feeling jealous because of the “chemistry” between Roberts, 63, and 20/20David Muir as the pair discussed her new position as co-host on the show.

“I think you’re doing great, you know? I mean, look, one thing… but the poster of you and David Muir, you’ve got a raincoat, you look [like a] wicked,” Roker told the paper, adding, “Actually, the chemistry almost seems a little too good.”

The rocker went on to praise Roberts and Muir, 50, while highlighting their on-screen “relationship” as hosting partners. “You both adore each other and I think the show is on the next level now,” he said.

Muir and Roberts are hosts on ’20/20′.

Roberts said ET that until now it was an “honor” to work as a co-host 20/20 having previously reported on the show for 28 years since being hired by Barbara Walters.

“It’s something that gives me a sense of accomplishment and a lot of pride,” said Roberts, who replaced Amy Robach Exit. “This is a program I have followed since I was a child. I remember in the living room with my sister Janet who loved 20/20 and we’d watch it together … at some point someone said, ‘Oh, maybe you’ll be doing a show like that one day,’ and of course it was a huge thrill to join the program 28 years ago.”

“And now, to be in this place where Barbra Walters sat, I mean, it’s just the thrill of a lifetime. I’ve said it before and it’s true, it’s really true,” she said.

Reflecting on her career, Roberts acknowledged Walters’ influence on her as a journalist, and also shared helpful advice her husband Roker gave her that she carried with her throughout her years of work.

“They all had a Barbra Walters style of interviewing and I remember at one point you said to me, not even thinking that I was trying to imitate Barbra or somebody in that host world, and you said, ‘Just be,'” Roberts said.

“And it’s not always easy to just be you because you kind of have to let go and just express your personality, and you kind of pushed me to do that,” she continued.

In September, Roberts said she was “thrilled and humbled” after being announced as co-host 20/20 in a post on Instagram.

“I have some news to share. I’m thrilled and humbled to take on the role of co-host of @abc2020 alongside my friend and colleague @davidmuirabc,” she wrote at the time. “It’s the thrill of a lifetime to travel the path Barbara blazed for women like me who dreamed of reporting meaningful, life-changing stories. What a privilege and honor to carry on the legacy of @abcnews #grateful.”
