Ali Fazal was born on October 15, 1986 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Fazal has been interested in acting since his school days as he often participated in school plays. He was chosen to play the role of Trinculo in Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. Before getting involved in the film industry, Ali filmed many commercials. He is also a theater artist. In 2014, Fazal was awarded the title of “Most Anticipated Man” by The Times of India. The 32-year-old actor is best known for his Bollywood debut as “Joy” in the film “3 Idiots”. He has played supporting roles in several Bollywood films. Furthermore, being a philanthropist, he joined ‘Fortis’ and ‘NDTV’ organized ‘Cancerthon’ to raise awareness and funds for children battling cancer. During the event, he also made anti-smoking remarks.

He attended La Martiniere College in Lucknow and completed his education at The Doon School in Dehra Dun. He was a basketball player during his school days and he always wanted to represent India in international competitions. After completing his studies, his parents wanted Ali to study engineering, but he convinced his parents anyway and completed his graduation in economics from St. Xavier’s College. He made his acting debut with the English-language film The Other Side of the Line (2008). He later appeared in the American television miniseries Bollywood Heroes. After the movie Kirby Kirby Forever failed miserably at the box office, Ali said in an interview that making the movie was not the right decision. Ali further revealed that he lost about 15 kilograms for the filming of the film. His film Fukrey (2013) was a breakthrough for Ali, and his career picked up pace and he received many starring offers.Ali played a supporting role in the comedy-drama, which starred Bobby Jasoos opposite Vidya Balan and received critical acclaim. In 2015, Ali made a special appearance in “Fast and Furious 7,” the seventh film in the Fast and Furious series.
He then appeared in an Indian-American film, For Here Or To Go? The film has been screened at several international film festivals. In 2017, he starred in the British and American film “Victoria and Abdul”, which premiered at the 2017 Venice Film Festival.
