Alka Mittal started her career as an intern at ONGC in 1985. Later, she held the position of Chief Skills Development (CSD) in the company. In 2018, she became the first female full-time director (human resources) of ONGC. She has held the position for more than three years. In 2022, she became the first female chairman and general manager of an oil and gas company and conducted an online interview and application at the company in accordance with the green recruitment process. When she was CSD, she developed a program called National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) at ONGC, which trained 5,000 apprentices at different centres.
