Alka Nath was born on November 24, 1950 in Amritsar, Punjab, India (68 years old; as of 2018). She received her BA from Sacred Heart College, Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh. Before entering politics, she was a social worker. She is a very private person and, despite being a member of Congress, is not very fond of politics.

Alka Nath is famous for her humanitarian work. She is also an artist. In 1996, Alka Nath’s husband Kamal Nath, who was charged in the Jain Hawala case, was refused entry to the party. In order not to lose his parliamentary seat, Kamal Nath introduced his wife as a virtual candidate. She participated in the 11th Lok Sabha elections and was elected as Member of Parliament for Chhindwara constituency in Madhya Pradesh, India. However, she resigned as MP in 1997 after Kamal Nath’s name was cleared from the Jain Hawala case.
