In 2006, Tragil was named executive director of the Wade’s World Foundation, an organization that provides “support to community-based organizations that promote education, health and social skills for at-risk children,” according to LinkedIn.

More than a decade later, she launched the Big Sisters of America Foundation to help disadvantaged children across the country overcome adversity.

Tragil is also a reading advocate and the namesake of the Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program, which was gifted to Marquette University by her former brother, Dwyane. Students have the opportunity to receive more individualized attention and small group literacy intervention through the program than they would in a regular school setting.

“The community that I come from, a lot of kids don’t have the resources or the opportunities,” Dwyane explained, per Marquette Today. “For us to be able to provide some of those resources is something I thought about when I was a kid, because I had the ability to change my family’s fortunes.”

It was a double celebration when Tragil and her father, Dwyane Sr., received an honorary doctorate in humanitarianism from the Global International Alliance in 2021. This honor recognized the father-daughter duo for their continuous work in the community.

A grateful Tragil wrote an Instagram post highlighting all those who have encouraged her along the way, thanking her “village,” including assistants, performers and a host of others.

“Every friend who always supported me and pushed me to be the best version of myself,” she wrote. “Every member of the family bought a ticket, donated, volunteered and just showed their love which means more than you can imagine. … Every fan of my brother and family, thank you all; I mean it.”

Dwyane left Marquette University early as one of the most decorated athletes in school history entering the 2003 NBA Draft. Although the Hall of Famer cemented his place as an NBA legend, Tragil was invested in her brother finishing his degree.

The initial plan was for him to continue his studies online, but the school didn’t have the courses Dwyane needed.

“He has accomplished more than I could have imagined and his career has gone further than most,” she said on Instagram. “But it stuck in my mind that he needed his degree for more reasons now than before. Now he is a father and little people look up to him.”

Tragil worked on an alternative plan, submitting an annual request to the school board to award Dwyane an honorary undergraduate degree. Her wish was finally fulfilled in 2022.
