All About Emily Ratajkowski's Son, Sylvester Apollo Bear

Emily Ratajkowski is a mother of one child.

On March 8, 2021, the model welcomed her first child, Sylvester Apollo Bear, with her ex-husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard.

Ratajkowski first announced that she was expecting in an essay for Vogue in October 2020. Then she explained why she didn’t want to reveal the gender of her baby when people asked.

“When my husband and I tell friends I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always ‘Do you know what you want?’ ” Gone Girl the actress wrote. “We like to answer that we won’t know the gender until our child turns 18 and they’ll let us know then.”

Since the birth of Sylvester, Ratajkowski hasn’t shied away from posting cute photos on social media, as well as opening up about her pregnancy experience and life after giving birth.

Sylvester has also started joining his mum at events, including the red carpet at Loewe Womenswear Spring/Summer 2025 during Paris Fashion Week in September 2024.

Ratajkowski shares her first-born child with her ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard, whom she was married to from February 2018 to July 2022. Bear-McClard is an actor and producer known for his work in 2019. Uncut gems and in 2017 Good time.

Because of Bear-McClard’s involvement in the entertainment industry, he and Ratajkowski were in the same circle of friends before their romantic relationship in 2018. After dating for just a few weeks, the model and producer tied the knot in a surprise ceremony that year.

In July 2022, a source close to Ratajkowski confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple had split. In September 2022, the couple filed for divorce after four years of marriage.

When Ratajkowski announced the birth of her firstborn, she also revealed the nickname she would call him. “Sylvester Apollo Bear joined us from the Earth side. Sly arrived 3/8/21,” she captioned her Instagram post.

During the conversation with EllaRatajkowski was candid about her birth experience, saying she trusted her body in the moment. She cited an excerpt from My Bodyher published book of personal essays, saying, “It wasn’t until I re-read the whole book that I realized there was an essay at the beginning about not being able to say no. And then in the hospital, I say no, my body says no, and I give birth to my son,” she continues.

“Writing these essays allowed me to get to a place where I was going to be in that room and be connected enough to my body to say, ‘No, we’re not going to use a vacuum.’ Then my body is like, ‘She just said no, we’re going to have this baby,'” she added.

His birth was the ‘most surreal’ morning of Emily’s life

When Sly was born on March 8, the new mom took to Instagram to say it was “the most surreal, beautiful and love-filled morning of my life.” She paired the heartfelt message with a photo of her holding her newborn.

Following the birth of her newborn, Ratajkowski shared a personal look at her baby’s arrival into the world, including a montage of raw photos “between pushes.”

After Sly’s birth, Ratajkowski posted numerous photos of her newborn, but with his face hidden from the camera. Only six months after giving birth, she showed the face of her “angel” in her Instagram Story.

The cute photo shows the boy wearing a blue and orange knit sweater with his name on it, as well as a big red beanie and orange socks. In the next slide, Ratajkowski and her little boy are shown having lunch together as Sly tries on a pink tufted hat.
