All About Jack Quaid's Famous Parents, Dad Dennis Quaid and Mom Meg Ryan

Jack Quaid’s parents, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, may be mega-stars in their own right, but for Scream 5 actor, they were always dad and mom.

“I grew up with friends whose parents were also in the industry, so I didn’t feel any different,” Jack said PEOPLE in 2023 “But then you grow up and realize that it is a rather unique thing, that not one but two your parents are actors. It’s only later that you realize things are a bit abnormal.”

Fans are quick to draw comparisons between Jack and his famous parents – particularly in their resemblance.

“People think I’m the tough half, and I mean the half. Some people see mom, some people see dad. It’s like an optical illusion,” he said USA Today in 2019

Dennis admits he’s a “crazy dad”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in 2023, Dennis opened up about parenting his three children: son Jack and twins Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, who he shares with ex-wife Kimberly Buffington-Quaid.

“I can be loud sometimes,” he said. “I often feel like a stupid dad.”

Still, the actor enjoys the role, including watching them grow.

Dennis continued: “I love being a dad. I really do. I think I’m a good dad. It’s worked out so well so far. Jack has turned out really well. I’m really proud of him, Thomas and Zoe, too.”

Dennis’ agent offered to represent Jack early in his career – but Jack turned him down

When it was Jack’s time to jump from the high school stage to the big screen, Dennis’ agent was interested in working with the younger Quaid.

“My agent wanted to represent him, and he said, ‘No, I want to do it myself,'” Dennis recalled to Clarkson in 2021. “Then, of course, he gets an agent himself, and then his first film is The Hunger Games. And then he enters [Martin] Scorsese’s Vinyl on television, which was the hottest show ever.”

Dennis joked, “I’m like, ‘Hey, how about a little help here?’ ”

Dennis joked about Jack giving him “reverse nepo” help again in August 2024, when he said ET that his son is already “far from me at that age”.

“I’m really so proud of him and he’s making great decisions,” Dennis said. “He’s such a great person. Most importantly of all. And that’s number one, and everything flows from that.”

Jack thought about changing his name

Jack was so serious about making it into Hollywood on his own terms that he considered another last name. In the end, he didn’t go through with it.

“I thought about changing the name at one point, but then I said: A: People will know anyway, there’s no getting around it. IB: I like my last name. I will keep it,” he explained USA Today in 2019

When Harry met Sally may be one of Meg’s most famous films, but her son didn’t see it until he was in his mid-20s.

“I saw it for the first time last year,” he shared further Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2019. “When you’re a kid and your mom has one of the most famous orgasm scenes of all time.”

After landing a part in a rom-com Plus one (2019), Jack changed his mind. “I was like, ‘I’m doing a rom-com, I have to watch it the rom-com,’ he recalled. “I was watching it, it was afternoon, I was alone and I immediately started crying because I was proud of her.”

When Jack apologized for not watching it earlier, Meg revealed that she herself had only watched it once.

According to Jack, it’s his mom’s favorite part of the Amazon Prime Video superhero series Boys is blood.

“She came to the set during one of the [Homelander’s] the creepiest scene, and it was so into it,” he told Jimmy Kimmel in 2019. “I was disturbed by how in love she was. She said: ‘There’s a lot of blood and guts. I dig it.’ ”

Although Jack was only 9 when Dennis and Meg divorced in 2001, he can tell how it affected him.

“It’s hard to ignore when you’re in the store, checking out and looking [magazines] and there’s a photo of them with a little graphic of torn paper between them,” he said Allegedly podcast in 2016.

When Meg was casting for her directorial debut in 2016 Ithacaa film about a 14-year-old boy named Homer who takes care of his widowed mother, she had Jack in mind as Homer’s older brother.
